What next ?? ...
..
After having sold my Elite through Iconic Auctioneers (formerly Silverstone Auctions) at the NEC in November, my thoughts turned to what I could replace it with ...
In fact, that's not strictly true - my motivation in deciding to sell the Elite was the desire to build another modified 356.
This time the plan was to start with a 356B &, in a similar way to the changes made to my old C, gradually transform it along the lines of a Factory GT model.
To this end I started lo accumulate any suitable parts as & when they materialised ... at 'realistic' prices.
During this time I was keeping a close eye on cars coming up for sale & quickly came to the conclusion that many sellers were over optimistic with their expectations - often refusing to lower their asking prices despite the fact that their cars had been on the market for many many many months ...
I enquired about/looked at a fair number of cars - many of which were over-restored for my purposes (or were obviously full of filler under their recent glossy repaints) but eventually I found what seemed to be a perfect candidate ...

The car concerned was a T5 356B which had been fully restored some years ago during which a number of my intended modifications had already been incorporated (uprated engine, Speedster seats, etc). Located in Italy, it wasn't advertised on the open market but was being sold on consignment via a high-end art auction house.
Unfortunately, it proved impossible to make contact with the actual owner & after protracted negotiations with the auction house, an acceptable deal couldn't be reached.
So it was back to the drawing board …
