Love my 996. Absurdly fast and eats up miles like nothing. Obviously you can't fully send it on the highway. Some might call that soul-less, others might say astonishingly capable. It's a bit like the terminator, just ruthlessly efficient.

2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

At some point in the future I can see my 914 exchanged for something like this. That will zoom around Europe but not for many years yet

Brakes werent good enough for the power though and ultimately once the acceleration novelty wore off a bit soulless and relatively boring on the country roads.
This^^^^^^^

Very capable car but just too fast to get anything like the buzz I get with less powerful cars at anything like legal speeds on our roads.

I sold mine to go back to an aircooled car.

A cheap but well fettled 986/987 Boxster gives just as much fun if I need a more modern fix and the n/a flat six singing at the back of your head is addictive.

Some of my Porsche mates have some nicely tweaked early 996 c2 which again provide much a better driving experience too.

This is exactly the route I went. I got an early throttle cable 2.5 Manual Boxster. Fast enough for the autobahn and will sit at 100mph all day, but also lots of fun on country roads. Unfortunately it means the 912 is still to get a trip to Europe as all the guys I go with have modern stuff and i'm just too slow for them. However I am planning a scandi trip on my own in it so I can take my time and stop when I want.

Speaking of Scandi... Unusual to see a '12 with competition history

You'll be waiting a while i'm afraid James, its being planned for my 50th in 2025. I need that milestone as an excuse to go off for 2 weeks. Though the plan is the wife will fly out and meet me probably in Kristiansand for a number of days.
