That would be a hard choice, but then I'm weird. Fulvia!

Lovely pair of cars Andy. I particularly like the look of the Fulvia - is it a 1.3HF?

Thanks Robert - they're both great cars - but very different in their characteristics.

Yes, the Fulvia is a 1.3 HF.

Hi Andy
Please don't leave us hanging ;-)
What would you say are the differences in their characters?
I had a 64 Alfa Giulia Sprint GT followed by a 73 911T, loved them both but again very different cars.

All the best

OK Ian ...

The Elite is raw, noisy, involving, exciting – every drive puts a big smile on my face.

For me it's everything a sportscar should be with nothing superfluous - but it doesn't like today's poorly-surfaced UK roads

On the other hand the Fulvia feels light, airy, effortless (but accomplished) – a car you can jump in & drive anywhere & still feel fresh after hours behind the wheel.
Every time I get out of it after a drive I'm reminded what underrated (& often overlooked) cars Fulvias are.

Having said that, it's probably a bit too civilised/efficient for me (it lacks the 'excitement' element) ...

Would that be a two stroke example with the freewheel clutch. I remember driving my friends one in the 1960's.

Actually I subsequently remember having to tow him in my Austin 1100 flat out down the M2 motorway to Sittingbourne at 70 mph using just a long scarf as a tow rope. Ah yes, those were the days.

Thanks for your reply Andy
I think I'd be more inclined to the Elite, I'd always imagined it to be a more focused (and basic) version of a FHC Elan, but I guess the use of a monocoque rather than as chassis was always going to transmit more noise, harshness & vibration.
The Fluvia sounds more similar to the Alfa...

Thanks again

All the best

I’ve had a Fulvia HF1600

Image

and an Alfa Giulia Sprint GT, albeit with 2 litre Nord engine

Image

The Alfa was full comp spec and stripped out inside, but it was a great road car and gobbled the miles up, leaving you with a big grin.

The Fulvia was tuned to about 140 Hp, but retained the fully trimmed interior. Down a twisty back road there was very little that to touch it, certainly quicker than the Alfa or a 911, superb handling. With the proper HF seats you get good support in the corners. We did plenty of motorway miles on the way to events and it was OK but the Alfa is better for that sort of motoring.

I miss them both :)
