Wheel cleaning

Can anyone recommend a good wheel cleaning product that I can use on my bare aluminium wheels.

Preferably something non-acidic and water soluble. I've been using hand wipes but was really looking for something I can spray on and wash off. Maybe foaming?

After cleaning I then use Gibbs/XCP or similar for protection.

Wonder Wheels solution I think will stain them, very aggressive and stings your skin if contact made.

Recently I've used Autoglym's Wheel cleaner.
Seems to be very effective and no skin irritation.
HOWEVER, all this is on painted wheels.

But, I'm sure a contact with Autoglym would sort out your concerns.

Many years ago I had 'bare' alloy wheels on my hot rod, Wolfrace wheels, and used nothing after a good wipe/polish with Autosol.

You need to be very careful on bare aluminium wheels. Nothing aggressive at all, keep them polished and they should be easy to keep on top of.

Indeed, my Wolfrace wheels came highly polished nad I simply polished them regularly.
Only used the car in the summer, but in the rain too.

Thanks, but it's only really for cleaning off the brake crud. I don't want to polish the rims just keep them looking as they are but protected from corrosion.

I'll have a browse down at Halfords.

I haven’t used it but have heard good things about Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel. Non Acid and non alkaline, pH balanced.

Worth just trying Gibbs Brand to clean them - bit of rubbing? - get the crud off and then a good layer to protect

I know this might sound silly but when I had my Fuchs reanodised I was told NOT to use wheelcleaner but instead use a mild solution of baby shampoo which is ph neutral

That's what I used and no issues whatsoever

Yep. Unless you leave your wheels for weeks on end….once clean, polished and coated the brake dust should come off easily with a few bubbles.

Thanks for the tips. I'll probably try some baby shampoo over the weekend and see how I get on.

Bilt Hamber Korrosol is an excellent iron remover, or BH Auto Wheel PH balanced is also excellent.

I have had no issues when using either.
