Re: Die Garage der Schande
Rob must be working from home to find the time for all this non-car stuff.
New shed looks great, perfect for shelves, a lathe and other Must-Have items that complete a real garage.
3 more skips?
How did you have so much snow when we only had light mist and I flew my model plane in still air @11 deg C?

The snow was from a week or two back. We had loads in Lichfield when even Birmingham a few miles away had only a light dusting.911hillclimber wrote:Rob must be working from home to find the time for all this non-car stuff.

I took about 4 days off work to get the shed done. Tried to pick the warmest driest days but it was utterly soaking and freezing. I ordered the shed 6 months ago and there is no way I was giving up that delivery spot.

Re: Die Garage der Schande
Given all the joys of Christmas - shopping, pantomime, entertaining the in-laws, I've struggled to get started filling the shed.
The time I've found for my projects, I've spent putting together a more compact bench and shelves in the garage.
I clamped up a couple of rafter offcuts to make a counter top.

Re: Die Garage der Schande
Stripped back the plasterboard and shifted this tap to make room to extend the bench.

Re: Die Garage der Schande
I built some shelves over the counter top, with a plywood backing so I can mount tools on the wall if needs be.
A bit of a waste of solid mahogany boards but I have no other use for them right now so I may as well use them up. I'm undecided whether to paint it.

Re: Die Garage der Schande
Schoolboy error here; I put the shelf in too close below the sockets, leaving no room for the cables.

Re: Die Garage der Schande
Next: either make or buy a mobile workbench to fit underneath. Once that's done I should be in a position to clear out some wood to the shed and make room for a car.

Re: Die Garage der Schande
Couldn’t you have just turned the sockets upside down ?

Re: Die Garage der Schande
Yes, that would've worked, although cables came in from the side with little slack in the cable. I considered a few options, also including this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neostar-Adapto ... B00LC1DRCY and other cranked socket adapters but given I have lots to do I decided on the easy and relatively immediate solution.hot66 wrote:Couldn’t you have just turned the sockets upside down ?

Re: Die Garage der Schande
Why not just put the sockets beneath the shelf. The shelf space will be useless in front the the sockets as you will need to plug/ unplug items.
If you can’t move the sockets beneath the shelf, then why not just make a cut out big enough to pass the plug through so as to be able to plug something in
Just a thought, just a thought

Re: Die Garage der Schande
I considered that but mahogany is quite brittle and this is a long unsupported span potentially carrying heavy weights so I didn't want to weaken it too much, so I just drilled out holes for the cables.markm wrote:Why not just put the sockets beneath the shelf. Re: Die Garage der Schande
Or sockets fixed under front edge of the bench, makes the leads on your tools that bit longer, and not buried in your stuff on the bench! Hny, W

Re: Die Garage der Schande
Inspired by the video linked above I fixed a large mahogany board to the narrow shelf using three piano hinges.

Re: Die Garage der Schande
...I still have some supports to put in before it'll be a usable workbench, but here's the extended shelf in the down position. I loaded up a few tools.
