My only ever dabble with woodwork was at school. I made a car out of wood which looked like a fish and had no wheels

Prompted by jonno1's 'car art' thread, I thought I'd revive this one to see what non-car projects people have undertaken during the lockdown(s).

I had my first attempt at 'sculpture' - inspired (vaguely) by Giacometti:

Lockdown 1 - Stripped repaired and had car repainted. Put interior back in and back on the road.
This lockdown - Removed and rebuilt Solex carbs, stripping, cleaning and painting engine bay, fitting fuel regulator.
Lots of Ebaying of random stuff collected - up to around 40 items so far. Surprisingly made quite a few quid.
Cleared out garage of "stuff" some sold some dumped
Fitted some wireless CCTV cameras - pretty impressed with them - Made by Arlo
and try and walk 1-1.5 hours a day

Trading from my spare bedroom. Bloomberg on the TV. Colleagues on MS Teams. Too much work and not enough play. Quite bored. Last year we had a lot of success so lots of goodwill from our management. This year is going to be tricky.

Great work on the sculpture Andy, really like that.

During lockdown one I decided to restore an old aluminium kitchen cabinet I'd bought from a flea market.

Started off looking like this

After stripping and dipping then polishing everything it up it now looks like this

Also restored all the exterior wood work on my house and did a few bits on the car

Restored a 380mm steering wheel which I then had retrimmed by Jonathan Parr

Made some new rear seat straps to replace the old broken ones

And replaced the exhaust and heat exchangers on the 912

Yep, it took bloody ages to be fair, very much a labour of love but kept me busy during lockdown.

Annoyingly it was intended to go in the garage but once finished the other half decided it was too nice for that and needed to stay in the house

Andy, your sculpture is remarkable. Do you have an affinity with Giacometti ?

Tim, that cabinet is amazing ! All the other stuff is brill obvs ..... but that cabinet ! :)

From memory, there was a company called English Rose kitchens that grew out of a company that produced aluminium body panels for Spitfires. Perhaps House Proud were a similar company.

Thanks Mike, yes pretty sure house proud produced similar stuff. When I got it it was covered in at least 3 different coats of paint (not to mention the fablon!) I stripped it down into pieces and started to nitromors it but the modern stuff is absolute rubbish so in the end took it to my local paint removal guy, he mentioned that it was made of aircraft grade aluminium. I think a lot of post war repurposing came into play with these sorts of things.

Thanks Mike (& others) - yes, I'm a big fan of Giacometti's work &, in particular, his bronze sculptures ...
