Cayman GTS 4.0 or Evora 410
So in covid there seems little point in actually replacing my 997 GT3, but I'm thinking about what, when, maybe.
I've been on the lotus track for a while and really like the current Exiges and Evoras. However the exige doesn't have enough room and storage inside to go touring with Mrs R. So Evora it is.
But the 718 GTS 4.0 isn't that far away on price if you squint.
Surely that must be a better driving car for touring, hilly roads and a few track days? But I want to be a lotus road car owner, help!
Thanks!

Go and try a 981 GT4, great car for touring as loads of storage and comfortable. Also works on track and in Wales!
The force is strong in this one ......

Re: Cayman GTS 4.0 or Evora 410
I haven’t tried the GTS but did drive a GT4 and an Evora when looking for the same thing (fast and fun, fits a bike inside, acceptable to the wife) and preferred the Evora. The Porsche is a much better ‘product’ but the Evora felt lighter and more pointy with sweeter, less brutal steering and ride. It was more fun and totally bearable from an NVH point of view to me.
The well documented long gearing on the GT4 is as disappointing as the journalists say and does detract from the experience as you’re changing gear less.

Harry quite liked the Boxster version of the same. https://youtu.be/33SC1IHld9Q

Listen to the recent spike car radio podcasts with Magnus walker ... both been running an Evora and both big Porsche fans. Interesting both spike and Magnus have different views but basically both like it

Re: Cayman GTS 4.0 or Evora 410
An interesting dilemma, will have a listen to the podcasts and have a think. There is a new Lotus coming which I think would suit me well although details are scant. Launch this year, delivery next year. But I don't like buying new cars so would have to wait until used ones arrived. But that would mean mid-next year, so I'll have to decide whether I really want a car this summer, or just use my 911 with its new to me motor. That's the sensible choice!

You really should try an alpine. Happy to let you have a drive in mine, insurance and COVID permitting
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah

Re: Cayman GTS 4.0 or Evora 410
I am happy to organise a test drive of the A110S for you once restrictions are lifted, let me know. A customer has an Evora, i was surprised how big it was in the flesh next to the Alpine!gridgway wrote:So there's the third choice! What a dilemma. Big thanks for the offer of a drive. Thanks and the early used ones start at £45k, so less of a stretch of the man-maths!

But for not a whole lot more than I am thinking (well maybe 20k more than the lotus)...

Re: Cayman GTS 4.0 or Evora 410
yes, good point, when I last did the sums to work out when the warranty went to, there looked to be a few years of ownership, then you could sell with warranty left. Probably risky on resale value though!

Re: Cayman GTS 4.0 or Evora 410
When we looked at an Alpine could not see enough luggage space for us and 2 to 3 weeks to Italy.
This is where the Cayman/Boxster scores every time, very useable design.
Why not the V6 Lotus? Time for a change from Porsche?
