Early 911 floor covering (sound insulation?)

Post by Gduplock »

I have always wondered what the "horrible" black and fibre matting under the carpet of my 1968 911L was actually composed of. Mud and horse hair would be an unsympathetic description.
Can anyone tell me?

I presume it is for sound deadening.

Also, is it supposed to be stuck to the floor pan?

I hate to think what would happen if it got very wet!

Would most of you pull it out or keep it for originality?

Thoughts please.

I kept mine when it was rebuilt. Seems to do the job well.
