Re: Road trip photos
First ever continental road trip in our 356 kicked off in diabolical weather. Freezing fog and snow on the motorways and autobahns, in May!
In Germany we rendezvous’d as planned with Mark Wrigley in his Togo brown 356 and met up with local 356 race driver Uwe Biegner, who showed us the Rhine sights.
The obligatory Stuttgart stop at the Porsche Museum turned up more 356’s on the route south. First time I’ve ever driven into a carpark and parked between 2 fellow travellers.
Snow, and up and over the first pass in the car was a real buzz. Since spent most summers seeking out good continental driving routes!
To our destination, several passes later, Merano in Italy - in the foothills to the Dolomites. The swollen rivers plunged down past the hotel front. We were here for our first 356 International meeting.
Merano is a ‘Porsche’ town, with a wonderful history of Treffen gatherings. Just a fabulously atmospheric location.
The weather was perfect, and many of the cars meeting up were just fabulous.
This was the first time we’d driven out with a big gang of 356’s. Real buzz.
We had route books but had no idea how wonderful the lunchtime gathering was going to be, high up in the Dolomites. And the number of 356’s in such a setting from all over Europe was astonishing. We met up with Ritchie from Karmann Konnection. (#lightest911ever). It turned out his roadster was one of the cars we’d parked up alongside at the museum.
One of the nicest cars at the meeting. Very original 356 Carerra.
Loading up in the hotel car park.
Time to leave. Special cars were loaded onto trailers.
Some hold ups on the Swiss border on the return journey, but otherwise a memorable trip

Hi fella's ... Phil here. Despite selling VOD years ago to a guy down in Cornwall, I still lurk on here as will always love old porkers. Still have a Porsche, but it's a 997 (gen2). Also have a Ford Anglia restomod which I'm in the process of selling to hopefully fund something loud and brash . . . this https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1210470. Here's a photo from one on our recent road trips up Mont VentouxBootsy wrote:A stunning car. Phil Johnson had it for many years. Regards Mike
He sold it a while back and is now into bikes in a big way

Nice to hear from you Phil. Glad you are still lurking. I don’t think I met you more than once at CLM but VOD certainly stole the show with me and I remember chatting to you for a good while about it. Shame it’s sold as I would say it’s one of my top three all time favourite ddk cars.
All the best

Mike

Multi-country road trip in the Boxster, perfect car for two and an adventure.
It took us to Murano in the foot of the Alps, our second trip, just go, just fabulous.
Hotel just 500m from that raging river:

I think you mean Merano Graham - same place as we went to? Great place as a driving base isn’t it? There are some really good pics online of early Porsche treffen there.

Re: Road trip photos
Yes, Merano.
Fab area.
Took it in for the second time during our trip to the Miglia Millie last May.
Great strolling about the centre along the river in the early evening then back to the retaurant in that hotel.

Quite a few years ago, trip to Switzerland with Mike 210bhp and James 71e-58a ... was my first time driving the big hills .
Bottom of the Schiltorn I think, we’d been upto the ‘James Bond’ rotating restaurant
Neufenen
Furka
Was a great trip and those passes are a great introduction

Re: Road trip photos
No Porsche in here, but still a notable road trip:
1988. I own the YA but, as I’m still 15, my dad (taking the photo) is driving, and me (on right) and my mate Liam (left) are navigating.
We are about to set off on the Norwich Union Run:
Lunch stop at - I think - Duxford:
I sold the car in 92, but I still have the rally plate from this trip:
