A Trivial Moan

Post by alfietom »

OK, We all know there are more important things happening in the world which pales this into insignificancey but.....

Last week I placed a small order with Design911 for 12 Driveshaft bolts at £1.99 each plus a delivery charge of £6.99!!!
£6.99 standard delivery charge is pretty steep in this day and age of mail order especially when its a Jiffy Bag sized package. It's free delivery on orders over £200.

Plus according to my account the order hasn't even been packed and shipped yet!

I think that is an unfair moan. The delivery charge is about normal for the specialist suppliers. Yes on eBay you can find free delivery but then you have to do your own research to find the correct items.

I've used them a number of times. I find the prices competitive and delivery is normally prompt. We are in extraordinary times so some patience is need.

Honest I think better not to pay the delivery cost then to come on here and moan after the fact.

Ps I have no connection to 911Design

Bought lots of things recently, and the royal Mail is a bit all over the place, but only by 2 days extra on 2nd class.

Indie curriers seem bang on and notifications accurate.
Chatted to a Royal Mail driver 2 weeks back and he was scratching his head how to get all the sacks from the village post office (at the back of the (CoOp) into his van. He said mail had gone bonkers busy.
Des and Type 911 have always been ace in normal times, but I think you pay for the 'one-stop-shop' just like in B&Q etc.

At least you got them! :)

£30.87 all in. That's not too bad. Not available from a local engineering supplies?

As long as they clearly state it up front, not sure what the problem is to be honest? We all hate paying delivery charges on the high side but a fact of life I think.

Hopefully Design911 have those items in stock. If not and they are special order from Porsche don't hold your breath. D911 get their genuine parts from an OPC and as that OPC is shut (in part because Porsche AG has stopped parts supply to the UK for the time being) you may be waiting for a while.

They are just high tensile cap head bolts, available from several.
Namrick is my go-to for these kind of fasteners, buy many may be simply closed for the CV Season.

I didn’t mind the price of the bolts but 7 quid postage is robbery!
I can order anything on wiggle, chain reaction for free, even M&S don’t charge £7 delivery.

The postage charge from France for parts is far far worse...

I placed an order for parts with Design911 on Wednesday, including some heavy Discs. It arrived Friday morning - not bad considered the current situation in the world. There was no delivery charge because of the size of the order. I am happy to use them even if there was, as their website is catalogued, comprehensive and easy to navigate. Staff are helpful also if you call up.

I don’t object to £6.99 for delivery but I’ve always struggled with the name ‘Design 911’.

I had a mail from Design911 today stating that they don't have all 12 bolts in stock and my options are:

Wait until my order is complete
or
Send the items we have in stock now (please note this will incur extra delivery charges)

Sorry, but I could not name any other company who does that! - So that would be £14 delivery

Or wait until the full stock arrives - I'd earmarked Thursday to get the job done as I'm still currently working.

Try elsewhere then - if outlets don;t have stuff in stock at the moment they're going to struggle to get it quickly.
