Looking for an exhaust for 1.7/1.8L heat exchangers
Hi All
Me again.......Kevin Clarke came and did a great job at the weekend - very knowledgable! What a guy!
Now I have another problem though....
I can't find an exhaust to fit the heat exchangers I have. I have 1.7/1.8L exchangers and it seems Dansk (according to their guys in Denmark so I am pretty confident!) don't make an exhaust to fit. I don't want a Bursch thing, I would rather have a banana exhaust, ideally twin outlet but pretty flexible on that now, beggars can't be choosers...
Does anyone have one for sale or can recommend a new one and where to get it from? I have looked at Turbo Thomas but don't fancy paying upwards of £750 just now....
Thanks

Bear in mind that when Design 911 says that a silencer fits 1.7 and 1.8 914s and 'This can only be used in connection with 1623105410 Left & Right Heat exchangers...' it means that to fit a 1.7/1.8, you need to change to 2-litre-style heat exchangers.

Very nearly caught me out....
Are the standard exhausts really quiet? I fancy a bit of noise and a bit of "go".....

Why on earth would they reproduce a 1.7/1.8L exhaust that doesn't fit the original heat exchangers?? I think something is amiss somewhere, absolutely no one would put that on a set of 2.0L heat exchangers.
I had a Dansk catalogue here but typically I threw it out just before Christmas.

Re: Looking for an exhaust for 1.7/1.8L heat exchangers
So this is the only one that will fit that Dansk do which is a reproduction of the original 1.7/1.8 exhaust.
That will fit of original 1.7/1.8 heat exchangers.
I can't think of anything else that's a straight fit for those heat exchangers unfortunately. I had a Triad on mine which sounded great and reasonably priced. I think Dave makes them for 1.7's.

Re: Looking for an exhaust for 1.7/1.8L heat exchangers
I know....I contact Dansk direct, and sent them a screenshot of the listing for the exhaust with twin exits...
Their answer was that at least they said it needs 2.0L heat exchangers.....
I had no idea what the part number was for the heat exchangers they list...
It's pretty misleading I think, very nearly bought one, good job I checked...

Which heat exchangers do you have? The ones with the flanges like in the photo above, or the triangular ones?
Re: Looking for an exhaust for 1.7/1.8L heat exchangers
Mike at Vintage Volkhaus made a custom exhaust for my 1.7....give him a ring and he will make one to your spec

Thanks, I will give him a bell and see what he will charge. It may be a bit pricey for my meagre budget.......ThreeTwo wrote:Mike at Vintage Volkhaus made a custom exhaust for my 1.7....give him a ring and he will make one to your spec
Thanks for the recommendation.

What's it like? Is it very quiet? Are you selling? It would useful to see what it looks like - I can't seem to find a picture online of a 914 with one fitted, they all have aftermarket ones fitted from what I can see....
Thanks
