Can anyone here get me discount on a new VW California

Post by sladey »

I’m in the market for a new VW California over the next month or two. Anyone got any contacts/tips/suggestions on how I can get the best discount?

I want to spec it myself etc

PM me if you’d rather not say in open forum

Thanks

Mark

HI Sladey - When buying my 2nd Caravelle a couple of years ago I went looking for an ex demo Gen6 , a phone around the UK and got a new one with with all the discounts and saved me a whopping £6444.00 + VAT. Snows VW Commercial, Plymouth, Daniel Charlesworth was who I spoke to at the time - nice easy deal - very well looked after.

Just to add most of the discounted ones are stock therefore exist so you can't spec it - was the same for my Gen6, but they tracked one down with the spec I wanted and in the Red/white colour I wanted so unless your spec is whacky then I would have thought you'll get pretty close if not exactly what you're after.

Good info on here Mark - https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/home/
There's a few pre-reg's with some dealers, good spec and discount.
You might have to compromise on the spec you want, but worth considering.
5-10% is possible.Guy Vincent at Preston VW gets a good name.
Good luck with search.

As Robin says, I'd phone around the Uk tot he dealers first. Some are giving bigger discounts. when we brought our second one from Leicester, James wouldn't give us fook all off the price, that hurt.

Make sure you try wrexham and Liverpool VW Commercial dealers as well, they seem to be good at the moment. Wrexham had quote a few in a while back. Nows probably the time to buy if you don't mind having a ex-demo like you one you borrowed for the weekend, as the dealers will be looking to shift them now before the winter closes in, check out the VW used website

My friends own this, they have new and used and are based in Derby.

I'm not that close to them to get mates rates for mates.

We get one or two new VWs a year and Swansway Crewe are always able to beat other dealers' prices.

They say it's because they sell higher volumes so get a better discount from VW.

What you really need is someone who works for VW, the friends and family discount seems to be pretty awesome.

It's also, of course, possible to avoid paying a significant part of the cost of a new VW Camper by getting a camper that isn't a VW. Scene tax is fine for a MK1 Golf, but not even a VW badge can make a motorhome cool. I know what you're going to say - residual values, blah blah - but I don't believe in all that, you can prove anything with facts.

Think the main thing with VW Californias is the quality of the build, and the full VW warranty. Conversions we tried were nowhere near the standard of the California, the residual value is a bonus,if you ever need to sell.

There are some good coach-built ones. Hymers are nice, for example.

My parents recommended we visit the caravan and camper show to look at everything that is available. I would rather stick needles in my eyes. I don’t want a camper, I want a VW camper, and one with a car-sized wheelbase. I know they are a van, but I’ve grown to like them.

So I’m afraid Hymens, Buccaneers, Marco Polos et al won’t cut it - no matter how good they are.

But thanks anyway Sam

Try Laine at SMG Tonbridge. That's where we're bought ours (T5) back in 2012, and he was good to deal with (and it looks like he is still there).

Get the factory extended warranty... there is a lot to go wrong... ours had no end of issues (actually, all sorted by the time the warranty ran out) but we still loved it. Don't think they've resolved all the corrosion issues with the aluminium roof, even on the T6, though...
