Engine lid mesh for an ST?

Post by gturner008 »

I have an aluminium engine lid, with a wire mesh in place of the normal horizontal slatted assembly.

I'm not keen on the look of the mesh I have. Any recommendations on period correct mesh for the ST? I've seen some pictures so STs with no mesh at all. Some with standard grill. Any thoughts?

The correct look would be the standard grill.

Have a look on the "Ultimate ST" thread on early911sregistry or "Another Hot Rod" on the same forum. There are many period photographs showing a range of grill styles. Some standard grills, some just mesh (under or over the lid aperture) and some using a standard grill with the aluminium slats removed. Most with rain shields.

Many thanks. I'll go look at the forum. I'm not trying to be a slave to originality - just want it to look good and be roughly what would have been used back in the day.
