Master Key / Valet Key

Post by Black66 »

Hi

Does any know if a 1968 MY 911/912 would have had master key that fits ignition, doors and glove box and a valet key that fits only the ignition and doors or would there have been a separate key for the glove box.
I just have the one key that does not fit the glove box lock

Cheers
Phil

Yes, one red and one black.

Seems like you only have a valet key. If you do a bit of google searching you will find pages like this that explain the difference - http://www.keys4classics.com/html/Por911_70-98.html
Alternatively someone has changed the glove box lock but less likely if ignition and doors match. To be sure you could take the tumblers apart to check which combination of pins you have but simpler probably to check your key style.
If it is a valet key you can easily get a master key cut to match.

Thanks for the replies

My key is not like the ones on that link

It is the same as. #141 IGNITION later 356B, 356C. 912 to 1969
On this link:-
http://www.keys4classics.com/html/Por911_63-69.html

I suspect that early 912's did not have a valet key but a separate glove box key
Would love to rekey the glovebox lock but cannot remove the barrel without a key.
