The Spa Six Hours

Post by TheMonkey »

Hello there.

I thought you guys might like to see some of the pictures I took last weekend at Spa.
If any of you have never been, I saw nothing about it on the site, then I recommend you go next year. DDK trip perhaps?

Weather for Spa was fantastic, the racing awesome, everyone was super friendly. We made friends with the Knebel motorsport guys who were really nice people. Access is fantastic, leaning over the pit wall at night watching 911's, Mustangs, GT40's and Cobras shooting past at god knows what speed! Amazing.

Anyway, I am about to attempt to put up some pics, so bear with me.

That worked!

Thanks

Mark

Spa

Post by TheMonkey »

Morning!

Glad you like the pics, I have more but not really of Porkers. I hope everyone likes the 917 at La Source hairpin. My digital camera has a ridiculous amount of delay between pressing the button and it actually taking the pic. That particular picture took 5 laps!

As for prices etc. We went with Norfolk Line on the outward journey at, get this, 04:15! Why? Just to see that piggin' 917.
Cost of ferries there and back (Speed Ferries inward) was £50. And because my dad phoned up before and ordered tickets a couple of weeks beforehand and was asked whether we were members of any teams or clubs, we received pink wristbands which gave us access everywhere. These cost the grand total of....nothing. And camping was just as much.

What was bizarre though, until sunday when the locals showed up, there was virtually nobody there. It was empty, no qeues to get anywhere, sit in what ever grandstand you like. Brilliant.

Not sure how, but there you go.

My 914/6 wasn't ready for the trip, so I borrowed my old mans XK150 while he took his 3.2 Carrera. The trip to Spa was fairly quick!

If you've never been, the roads in that part of the world are amazing, short straights with loads of cambered fast and slow bends with stunning scenery.

I've been to a few historic race meetings in my time, but this was the best by far. I shall be back next year. Hope some of you will too. Not at four in the morning though.

Right. must get on with some work!

Bye for now!

Mark,

I was queing for the 'Speed Ferry' at Bolougne in the lane next to you(was in a boring new silver golf tdi).Took ages to get the tickets because of them wanting their extra 6 euros for the 'marine diesel'...
Have to say that the Jag looked and sounds superb.

Re nobody being around,it was exactly the same that weekend in and around Le Mans, where we were.
Did someone phone ahead and tell them we were all coming over for that week/weekend??

Once again, fantastic XK,put it into the 'Tour Brittania' next year,or the 'Classic Le Mans'......but you've probably already thought of that 8)
