993 interior mirror...safety or marketing mistake?

Post by Super90speedshop »

The 993 is a fantastic machine even by today's standards plus has the advantage of Eco-friendliness needing no water to keep it cool. A comment though on the design of the interior mirror......it may be that Porsche intended the view through the mirror to be as it is for safety reasons but when something as dull as a Vauxhall Astra suddenly has the appearance of a Porsche eating monster it's pretty annoying to say the least! Personally I think it's a marketing mistake or perhaps a product development process issue. PS the 2016 Mustang looks like a giant road making machine when seen through the 993's interior mirror. Now that I've mentioned it........!!

Regs change around that period requiring a certain field of view around the vehicle, id guess it relates to that.. Air cooled 911 puts the interior mirror quite close to the driver in most situations so presumably its convex and big? Long time since I drove a 993 and based on the recent auction results I doubt ill ever be allowed to drive that particular car ever again

Another one on the horizon, however the construction equipment manufacturers are fighting it because it basically requires 360-deg cameras and monitors for "to the letter" compliance :(

I think this is to do with the 911 rear screen and not the mirror? I know that most cars look great through my rear view mirror - much wider and lower than they actually are
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah
