Better buy some closed lug nuts, then!

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
My 911 has std studs and VW steel nuts as 'closed' nuts are not allowed on competition cars. The studs are 1 thread under the nut as the Compomotive wheels are a bit thicker than Porsche Wheels.
Never had a problem and never failed scrutineering for 14 years.
Oddly, the nuts have never rusted.

Keith,
is the hesitation you are getting around 1,000 and 2,000 rpm?.
Not sure if your tacho is fitted in as standard or turned around, but if you watch the video, you seem to get a lot of static feed into the camera at those revs. If thats any help? Anything need shielding?

The hesitation is between 2300 and 3000rpm – the tacho has been refinished so that the redline (6800) is at the top. I agree about the interference - I'd like to rewire the engine bay to keep everything away from HT leads/coil pack etc. Some of the extraneous sound on the video is also the camera mount vibrating (duct tape is called for!).

Hi Keith,
Not as racy as Magnus, but close! Heart in the mouth, I thought you were going to stall on the railway crossing!
Best wishes,
Howard

Hi Howard - good top hear from you! Our local level crossing is so rough that you need to negotiate it at walking pace in anything other than a 4x4!Grenoble39 wrote:Hi Keith,

KS,
How have you grouped your earths? All via the block or back to the ECU via a grounding plate or a mix?
You might also consider a handful of "ferrite cores" on key wires.
Not the right place for this chat, I appreciate.

I'll need to recheck - basically tried to do it all to the block originally but over the course of time and frustration, there may be other earths, too.Bruce M wrote:KS,

PM me if you have any bright ideas!
Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?
Via the block is a bad idea for anything sensor related or linked to the ECU. Plenty of electrical noise & good chance of a ground loop. Noisy stuff like coil grounds can be dumped into the block. 'Star' ground near the ECU is better. Very similar issues to audio equipment so similar theories apply (even worse environment). Should be plenty of good internet resources, I'll have a hunt.

Keith, the best thing to do is to take a data log of the suspect area. if there is a noisy signal at the ECU that is sending it a little off, this will be evident on the log. If you are running without a Lambda sensor, you'll not be able to see issues in the map.
You could borrow a wide band sensor and maybe see tuning issues too.

Splurged on a new fuel pump, a pressure reg valve, and a rolling road session for the RS.
