GRRC - is it worth joining?

Post by orkneydave »

After being on the waiting list for some time (and declining to join several years ago), I have just recieved a joining form in the post for the GRRC.

Before I fill in the form and send it off, is it really worth the money?

Hi Dave
It was £150 ish when I was last a member (that was some time ago, no idea how much it is now) and I felt it was worth every penny. Being able to wonder the paddock, inner field at the Revival made a great event even more special.
However I often felt a little poor relation with a lot of the organised trips. Club offers like 'thousands of pounds to fly my Lamborghini (add supercar of choice) to somewhere with snow to have a weekend doing 'Lamdo on ice' driving..." possible a little exaggeration there, but you get my drift!
Looking back, the memories of the four Revivals I attended are amongst my happiest motor experances, so yeah I'd go for it...

All the best
Ian F.

I am not, and never have been a member, but my brother is, so I get the benefit of early ticketing, access to the Revival paddock and the under-track tunnel, as well as the various enclosures, especially the Lavant Banking, which, although not the best spectator spot, does have a wonderful food tent and very exclusive member's parking. I'd go for it.

I voted yes - for much the same reasons as Ian F. What you get for your money is the opportunity to spend even more money on things that you don't need!

Worth every penny - the Revival access and Members Meeting make it an easy choice on renewal for me.

I've never been a member (& unlikely to become one) - what's the current membership cost ?

I declined membership when I got to top of the waiting list, as the Revival clashes with the Southampton boat show which I exhibit at each year, so i can't take attend what would be the main attraction for me. I felt the remaining benefits didn't offer enough value, especially as I was still offered advanced tickets for MM74 for being on the waiting list.
I understood other benefits included discounts on Toyo tyres, but don't know if this remains case.

Dave,

I am not a member but my neighbour is and he is very pleased with his membership. However.. we both live 15 minutes away from the track and you live in the Orkney's ?? Would you visit Goodwood a lot??

That's my dilemma I suppose. For the last few years I have not been off Orkney for anything other than work but hoping that now my house is virtually finished off I will have more time to get away this year. I very much doubt that I would save any money by joining.

If you're going to make it to the Revival I'd say join. The paddock access puts the icing on the cake of what is pretty much the best historic wheel to wheel racing in the UK. And it gives you access to a range of club eating and meeting areas around the circuit. In a bid to widen their regional relevance, GRRC are this year putting on some regional club events and drives around England. I reckon it'll be some time before they make it to Orkney though!

Try it for one year. If you feel you don't get your money worth don't renew.
I live in East Devon about 2hrs away and always attend the Revival, and members meeting. Every other year the Festival of speed in the Kinrara enclosure. There is also the breakfast club.
Orkney? I think if I lived that far away I'd have to think hard about joining.

£390, just had the same letter!
Less than I thought but too much for me. I had enjoyed some benefits of being on the waiting list such as being able to buy tickets to the members meeting and early warning of revival etc.
If I had the money i would
