1972 911S - two owner, current for 40+ years

Post by KS »

My friend in SoCal is selling his 1972 911S. We featured this car in our March/April 2015 issue (#28), so the full story's there.

He has owned it since late 1975… The car was sold new by Vasek Polak to the one previous owner. Interesting story here: the customer wanted a black car but Vasek Polak couldn’t get one. He had a new 911S in Light Yellow available and agreed to carry out a full repaint in black. So the car left the factory in Light Yellow but was sold in black!

The all-black interior is interesting, too. It was retrimmed in period by Don 'Brad' Bradford, the leading auto-upholsterer in Orange County. The original seats and door panels have been trimmed in his trademark ‘fat biscuit’ design (double-stitched panels). The driver’s door panel was swapped for a RHD-spec one so that it has the door pull and arm rest to match the passenger side.

It has functioning factory air-conditioning. The original (‘numbers matching’, to use the usual parlance these days!) engine has been rebuilt a couple of times, and is stock spec and low miles. He has the original 15in wheels to go with the car, along with the original factory ‘touring kit’ of spares... Never been hit.

It is a well-known but little-seen car in Orange County and has participated on R Gruppe Treffen, but he has more fun now driving his VW and feels the Porsche is simply too valuable to use in traffic, let alone park it anywhere.

I’ve driven it on many occasions and it drives wonderfully. I only wish I could afford to buy it, but I can’t.

He's looking for c.$185,000, which today is roughly £123,000, but open to discussion.

Contact me in the first instance if interested and I can put you in touch, or answer some basic questions. classicporsche@chpltd.com
