Which auxilliary lights?

Hey all,

Hope you had a great Christmas and will have an even better New Year!

So, I'm at bumper selection stage and my car is wired for fogs..hence query about fog/driving lights

I think I have established that my US 1973T had its fog lights mounted through the horn grills rather than in the bumper. So, I need a pair of correct lights.

The PET is not clear on what was fitted to an early '73 car. I know in the US the lights would have been yellow and I am not planning to use yellow lights so I am already deviating from original....

I'm also thinking driving lights would be more practical than fog lights... but again not original fitment?

The options I think are:

Fogs - 911 631 202 00

Fogs - 911 631 213 00

Driving - 911 631 121 00

Anyone have an accurate view on which of these fog options would have been correct on a European 1973T?

Oh, and if anyone happens to have a set????

You will be looking for Hella TN1/TN2 through the grille driving lights to be correct. If you find a NOS pair with four rivets on the reverse then expect to pay around £400-£500 pair and if you find the ultimate original five rivet set then you can double that for a NOS pair. Otherwise you could settle for a close 'generic' hella set (fitted to Porsche/Mercedes etc in period) in the same size (just under 6 inch diameter lenses) which look similar and are available in yellow or clear lenses available for under £50 for a set needing work or £100-£200 for NOS pair. I still have an active thread on here selling one of these generic sets but unfortunately they have yellow lenses which you don't want.

You will need the TTG black (usually dealer supplied in the day) cut out grilles or chrome (usually supplied by the factory up to 73) cut out grilles and the light brackets (very hard to get originals) but easier with reproductions or home made.

Could you point me towards your post on the yellow lensed pair please - had a look but couldn't see them.

If there were driving lights mounted TTG then presumably they were wired to the main beam? I can't check at the moment because my car is in pieces but presumably the additional wiring I had hanging under the front bumper is wired to the fog switch on the dash. Could this mean that there were also fog lights in the front bumper??
