It's pic 60 that gets my vinyl soggy
Did anyone else go ? I suspect that'll be the last year I go. I've never missed one, and every year it gets steadily more commercialised. Now its big business, and most people are there on corporate freebies or to get a brief glimpse of a cheesy F1 burnout. Not for me, rant over.
They even canned the soapbox racing this year on some flimsy safety related whim....
I looked after the Prodrive leaning soapbox a couple of years ago, a great occasion, our driver only crashed at 60mph, can't see what they were worrying about!
Excellent pics, esp RSR & 917. I rarely miss a year and also went yesterday. Had a great day but inevitably don't like the crowds either. However, it was never going to stay as an enthusiast only event like the first couple of years and full credit to Lord March for making it a commercial success that allows it to continue. It's well organised and they've clearly reinvested heavily to make it work. I'd rather it was like this than fizzling out for financial reasons. In the end I prefer the Revival (for the racing) but other than these events where else can you see so many cars like these in one place and being used for their true purpose?
By the way, I watched the downhill racers last year from Pheasantry and the wind blowing up the hill made it potentially lethal as they made that turn, resulting in no Soapbox challenge this year. Interesting to see/hear the Prodrive stuff. Good project to have worked on I'm sure. I can't believe that any of those pro teams stuck to the under £1000 budget rule. Anyway, let's hope GRRC bring it back at some stage.
The apprentice soapbox race was held last week in Herefordshire, our boys from Prodrive won their class and 4th overall and took best turned out team !
