Twin plugged.
Re: Twin plugged.
The 356 Registry had an article (2010 or later) on a friend's B Cab. that has been modified with twin plugs, crank fire ignition and fuel injection.
It is a very quick car to say the least.

Re: Twin plugged.
Neil - you can use something like an MSD ignition box with your std distributor to give you the effect you asked about - ie multiple sparks through the std single plugs to improve the burn efficiency.

That's one hell of a thread. Quite an education.

Re: Twin plugged.
This car YLD9 ( or the number ) was owned in 1992 by a P L Kellner who was in the PCGB It did start out from new in 1959 as T5 356B. The description on the info you posted advises its a super with Zeniths but with 60hp thats incorrect if it was a super, it had 75hp and a higher top speed. ( the fan housing would have been black on the 60hp damen as well )
However to me it looks as though the engine was changed and of course modified considerably. I am not sure when the indent in the fan housing occured but I think but later than 1959?? Looks like a T6 or 356C engine to me??
The info I have also seems to state YLD 9 as a Roadster. I think I have photos of this car from years ago somewhere. I seem to remember the number. Correct, the Carrera motor had 2 distributors and twin plugs.

Re: Twin plugged.
Thanks Mike very interesting thread. I recently got to drive an ariel atom in anger on a track. Scary but it made me realise our beautiful old cars will never be fast. If you arent vintage racing set the car up the best you can and worry about getting an extra 20 to 30 hpmycar wrote:Is that Bill Sargents car Tom ?TLC356 wrote:The 356 Registry had an article (2010 or later) on a friend's B Cab.

Re: Twin plugged.
Here's a link. Ron La Dow is a frequent poster on the 356 Registry and his performance parts are made to be installed with minimum change to the original configuration. I have no personal connection or experience with his products. I corresponded with him once about adapting his primer reservoir to a small block Chevy with a chronically dry after storage carb.

Here's Andy Prill's version

A bit neater that the twin dizzies on the precision matters version in my opinion. I always wanted to twin plug my 912, but alas, now it's gone it will never happen

Re: Twin plugged.
That certainly looks to be the distributor fitted Stuart. Very neat.
Here's some more photos Roy, save you going up to the loft.
Thanks for the link Bruce, I know Ron La Dow and his products are very well thought of over in the States.... that's a fine looking dizzy !!

Thanks Mike, my pics are I am sure over 20 years old. Would take some finding. Nice car though and yes, Ron's very good with Zeniths as well.

Mike: It's not Sargent's car, but the car lives in MA and belongs to Greg McManus. Here's a picture and some information from Greg.

Re: Twin plugged.
Interesting article here on getting more power from your 356 engine. Twin Sparking is discussed but the writer likes 1900 setup.

Re: Twin plugged.
A bit like lighting a piece of paper at both ends, it will burn much quicker than just lighting one end.
Congrats. Nige,
That is the best description I have ever heard on this subject

Roy,
YLD 9 was and is a Roadster BUT - BUT - BUT - just to confuse us old boys, the Rgistration number has been swapped from One Roadster to another (both the same colour)
