I think you need to bury the shiny badge in the garden for a year or two

Re: 1973 2.4E Restoration
Paid a visit to Canford Classics this week.....one of my favourite places to visit
Amongst other things collected a fully sorted wiring loom...some very nice polished brightwork...
....and a beautifully refurbished, 1972 dated, matching set of Fuch Alloys shod with fresh Michelin XWX's...
All coming together now - in a few weeks I should have a finished shell to fit everything to
Cheers,

Re: 1973 2.4E Restoration
Please excuse my indulgence, I'd planned to next show my painted shell when it was fully assembled and at least something to look at, but I couldn't help myself......
Totally boring to the vast majority I'm sure but I truly love fresh paintwork - I could spend hours (days, weeks, months) at somewhere like Sportswagen just drooling over the masterpieces they create.
Well, my painted shell is now complete - Rich has finished wet flatting (colour sanding) and polishing and I'm really very pleased with the end result.
I love the totally flat smooth, hard finish (like polished glass) and the creaminess of Light Ivory, the paint still looks silky and wet and the reflections it creates are amazing. I just wished I could photograph like Mr Ferryman and really capture how good it looks in the flesh.....
The wings, doors, bonnet etc. are just being painted, a touch of satin black around the dash and inside the cabin and the final fitting up and we'll be there - very close now
Thanks for looking.

Looks fantastic
Re: 1973 2.4E Restoration
Nice one Darren - yet another Light Ivory. Looks so good you just want to leave like that for a while, I found.
What are you planning to ask your paintshop to do re polishing the paintwork? After some discussion with my paintshop I decided to take it home 'from the gun' until I had fitted it out, and will soon be returning it for a final polish before fitting the 'bling' - badges and the like.
Trust me whoever fits it out will get some greasy finger-marks, adhesive, masking tape residue, and the odd minor mark (at least!) on it before they're done. Leaving you to get it done again. Now of course you can clean all this stuff off, but whatever you clean it off with will in some way impact the paint. Now my engine is out for the second time (more later ) so more marks ....
Mine never looked as good as when it came home from the paintshop .... until it comes back again!

Re: 1973 2.4E Restoration
Once the shell is finished and all panels fitted I'll give it a couple of good coats of wax for protection and then leave it until everything is done.MT wrote:What are you planning to ask your paintshop to do re polishing the paintwork?
As you say Mick, quite a bit to go through before it's finally on the road. When it is I'll use cleaner fluid and strip back to paint and then lots of wax again - I'm good with wax, you should see my legs! (not an offer BTW)
Seriously though, I've been really pleased with the paint we've used, it hasn't sunk in the slightest, has dried rock hard and looks like it's been poured on. Wet sanding was quite a task and hopefully it will hold up really well. There's few coats on there so if we do have to tidy up a bit we've got plenty to work with.
Cheers,
Darren
