1973 2.4E Engine Lid
Hi
I'm just about to start the body restoration of my 1973 F Series German registered LHD 2.4E and need to source various body panels.
The Haynes Porsche Data Book compiled by Marc Bongers states that my vehicle was originally fitted with an aluminium engine lid the same as the S model.
Others I've spoken to have disputed this.
Can anyone give a definitive correct answer?
Thanks,
Darren

All production 911s had steel lids as standard, the alloy lids were an option on the 2.2 cars for sure, so were probably available on 2.4s as well (as an option). The only way to find out is to see the build sheet or original sales invoice for thecar, the CoAs are not reliable enough for this kind of detail.

Does anyone know if there's a way of obtaining a copy of the original build sheet?
Thanks,
Darren

You can obtain a 'Certificate of Authenticity' from Porsche Cars GB - it's free if you're a Porsche Club member or £65 + VAT if you're not.
It comprises an A4 sheet of headed paper outlining the car's original VIN, engine & transmission serial numbers, interior/exterior colour, dates of manufacture & registration & name of supplying Dealer plus a list of any options ordered.
However, they are notoriously inaccurate (or completely wrong !) & I have never received one that was correct first time !
One of the main problems is that Porsche used the same option codes again in later years (but for totally different options) which often means that the CoA for an early car can contain details of options which were never available at the time ...

Thanks Andy,
I do have a CoA and listed details on my restoration thread this morning.
I'd be grateful if you could look at this and interested to know how accurate you think it may be?
Cheers,
Darren

I always heard that the alloy lid is serial on the 2.2S ?nick-moss wrote:All production 911s had steel lids as standard, the alloy lids were an option on the 2.2 cars for sure, so were probably available on 2.4s as well (as an option).
