Early LWB dials vs late dials - dash fitment

Post by MdR »

Took out the rev counter last night (clamp in style with the knurled nuts) & went to fit the SC rubber gasket sealed one.
Then found it doesn't fit.
The dial itself seems the same size but I can't get it in with the rubber gasket seal.
Is there a trick I'm missing or do they just not fit?

Hi Martin, cars up to 69 have a smaller diameter dash hole, thus the later gauge seals will not fit. You need to use the early style seal but then without the clamps it is not rigid once fitted.

I have been looking into this recently and hope to have some seals which can be used to fit later dials in early cars but this will be a while yet.

Ah. That would do it. Duct tape it is for now then...

Alternatively, some butyl tape would certainly hold em in, we use some in the windscreen industry that is black, makes excellent wiring grommets and the warmer it gets the more tacky it is - like black Blutack with attitude and better forming properties
