Smugglers box gasket

Post by Classic »

I've looked in the usual places, but to no avail. I'm looking for a new gasket for the smugglers box, or ideas on a suitable replacement.

Thanks in advance

Tony

I can't help, but you need to specify if it's for a L or RHD car

Sorry Nick, it's a RHD car, i think i'll have to go to a rubber place and see what they've got.

If you want original it is a pretty unique item. I will take a look to see if I have any but it will be another week before I can look.

Lhd gasket is still on the PET at under a tenner, I have to ring Porsche on availability of other bits tomorrow so I'll ask, they can check PCGB and DE. Stock :)
I'd be tempted to get one and shorten it to suit rhd car should be easy enough to do.
I'll also have a look at work aswell, between us someone will have one floating about :)

Hi, I checked and the LHD version is still available from Germany and is the same as RHD bar being longer.
I have ordered one for you as they were only 11 pounds and I have a load of stuff on order so just added it to the order. No worries if not needed as at least we can check it out.

HTH

Hi Tony,

I manage to pick the smugglers box seal up today and it is the correct seal! In fact now I have seen it I am going to change them on any car we have in that needs it. This is a LHD version but luckily for a RHD car all you need to do is shorten it, it is simply glued together.

Send me an address and I will send it, or I can send the part number and just order one, whatever is easiest for you.

Here are some pics

Thanks

Alan

Alan, i can't thank you enough, i've sent you a PM with my details.

My car's just back from paint, and it was the only part in the front that was letting my restoration down.
