Paul your donor chassis number is about 15" rear of the handbrake on the top of the gearbox coupling cover. If your going through the IVA then the new chassis number needs to be stamped on the rear right sub chassis leg, so it can be seen when the engine lid is open. From memory the stamp size no smaller than 4mm .

So for example your chassis number will look like this;
PIL01234567892010

Stamp it on a flat bar and tack it onto the sub-chassis leg if you cannot get access to stamp it.

You will also need a plate under bonnet area with body manufacturer and chassis number stamped.

ok thanks Rich. Can I just add this to existing number (sorry but I dont have a clue - even where it is!). Does it need to be in a certain place? Someone mentioned that they think it needs to be on the right hand side somewhere.

Thanks again
Paul

That's right 17 digits.

For a example this is how to get 17 digits;

first 3 are body manufacturer chesil/pilgrim

CHE or PIL

then the donor chassis number 9 10 digits

1234567890

then the year of completion or IVA

2010

that's it, if you have a 9 digit chassis number just add a zero after the manufacturer digits i.e CHE0 or PIL0.

Hope this helps out

Is it true that the IVA chassis number needs to be 17 digits? My beetle chassis is only 10. Bit fraudulent to change it isnt it?
What have you builders done to cover this off?

thanks
Paul

Good to put a face to the name and number, never even got the kettle on...me bad

Don't think a gasket exists for the front grills but it don't stop you fitting one??
