Where is this wire supposed to be connected?

Hi all,

Does anyone know what this extra wire is for? The loom may not be original but I thought it was worth asking to see if other cars have this connected to something. My car is a 1965 RHD 912 but was restored in 1995.
I'm in the process of stripping the boot back to bare metal so please ignore the rust

Looks like the wires to the bonnet light switch

Hi Steve,
I am guessing a bit here, but is it the connection into the 'bonnet' loom, i.e. the supply to the trunk lights?

I don't think there is a bulb (or bulb holder for that matter) in the boot lid so that might explain why the wire doesn't go anywhere. I'll investigate tomorrow.

Hi, If you pull back the wire cover just a bit it should reveal the wire colour, I suspect that the loom has been altered at some time as on a 1965 912 there should be a washer pump and wing mounted washer bottle to the left of the wire. If you let me know the wire colour I will get back to you.

Hi All,

Thanks for your help. The wire is for the bonnet loom to supply the trunk light. The loom is missing so I will have to sort that out. It will be quite a luxury to have some illumination in the boot.

Work on the boot stripping back is going well, here is a picture of the progress so far. I am scraping it all off with a blunt chisel so blood, sweat and tears have literally gone into this bit of restoration!

I have the bonnet loom out of my 65 car at the moment,
so if you need a picture of it to make a copy i can take a photo for you

edit, apparently I am slow, I am having trouble figuring out how to post a pic? I read FAQ but don't understand it.
