I pinched this picture from John Glynn's post. That car is pretty much my wet dream.
You are getting there and starting with a 912- especially the last chassis made IIRC, is a good start. Incidentally, does the build number (as opposed to the vin as the shell was taken off the 911 production line) state it being build as a 911 but with a 912 engine?

On the early S's is this chap called "homemade911" who did a similar thing based around a 912 with a hot 2 litre S spec engine. I have the pdf of the specs which I can send over if you like, which might be interesting regarding suspension settings etc.

Pound for fun wise, the way you are choosing is an immensely sensible one. I'm looking at an early S to bolt on some rally pack bits. I perhaps overcomplicate things a bit. My guess is that you will be driving a very nice car earlier than I am...

Looking forward to the progress of the project :)

Bert - interesting point and I need to do soome more digging around when I get the full history file....left it with Mark for the time being

But annecdotally there was a suggestion in the file - with a letter to Porsche GMbH from owner #2 that actually it had been built as a 911 and was 'converted' in the factory to special order as a 912, but as I say need to research that a bit further

Thought about say a 2.0 or a 2.2 which would be more 'right' for an 'R' I guess....but just decided that something a bit beefier was what I was looking for :)

Bert - if you could, I'll PM my email.
