The 'Maverick' Classic Porsche Forum and Classic Porsche Club for Porsche 356, Aircooled Porsche 911, Porsche 912, Porsche 914 & Porsche Replicas. 'We join for the cars but stay for the people'
Just to flag up what well known Porsche expert Neil Bainbridge is up to this summer instead of putting my car together
Neil, 'Mr Zapcat' is setting off to circumnavigate Gt Britain in a zapcat, a 14 ft rubber boat for charity. As you know Neil only has one arm so it's definitely single handed......
You can follow his fund-raising at the moment, and then his progress when he leaves late next month, on his new website for the trip:
I'm sure Neil would appreciate everyone's support, so do follow the trip and feel free to donate to a couple of worthy causes!
Mike
cheers, Mike.

That's a long way on something with no creature comforts or even seats. On plus side it shouldn't take too long in one of those. Well done and good luck
they look fun I assume normally with 2 people on board it's a bit like a motorcyle/sidecar combo ? One to steer / power & the other for weight transfer?

That's right, keeping the nose down seems to be a big part of their job, and only hold on to a strap.

Hi James, normally when they race the guy at the front as you say is using his weight to stabilise the boat, for Neil 'single handed' trip round the coast of Britain the weight will be in fuel cells which can be moved around as they are used up to trim the boat. He has also fitted the engine control arm with an extension, so his body weight is further forward than when they race.
This is Neil racing last year with Phil the bowman working hard!
cheers, Mike.
