Two piece handbrake (1970-72)

Posting here too in case anyone doesn't read uk914.

I had a problem with my handbrake in that it was not locking on ie
engaging although the function worked when I pulled it up.

I took the lever off and after playing with it for a couple of
hours I am thinking that the spring clip on the release rod is broken,
though I understand from Tech Tips 700 that the symptom of this is
that it will not disengage and I didn't find any pieces of spring clip
laying around on the car floor!
Does anyone (a) have or know where I can get, a replacement spring
clip/release rod, or even a working two piece lever: or (b) have a
photo of what the clip should look like, as the photo in Tech Tips
doesn't tell me anything! or (c) have any tips or solutions, apart
from the obvious one of welding the two piece handbrake lever into a
one piece!
