History of the Carrera 3.

(apologies if you already know this... and very interested in any extra info anyone out there might know about the wonderful Carrera 3!).

The Carrera 3.0 was first introduced in August 1975 for the 1976 Porsche model year and was available for two years until July 1977.

During these two years only 2564 Coupes were produced for the 'I' and 'J' Series 911 production runs, this particular example is part of the 'I' series .

The 'I' series saw the introduction of “Thyssen” zinc-coated steel… a hot dip process that was used on all chassis and bodywork parts to help combat rust… making these cars less prone to rust than the earlier models.

The Carrera's power unit proved to be a powerful, strong and extremely reliable engine, and

The car was available with either a 4 or 5 speed version of Porsche's 915 manual gearbox, or with Porsche's 3 speed Sportomatic semi-automatic transmission. front and rear anti-roll bars were fitted to reduce body roll and to improve stability and to stop the car, disc brakes were used all round (282mm front, 290mm rear).
the overall design of the car was to form the bedrock for the remaining years of the 911 series until the introduction of the 964 model in 1989.

For its time the Carrera 3.0 was an extremely powerful sports car, its 3 litre horizontally opposed air cooled engine using Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection produced 200 bhp at 6000 rpm and 188 lb/ft of torque at 4200 rpm.

Porsche claimed 0-62 mph time of 6.3 seconds and a top speed 'in excess of 142 mph' however… in motoring press road tests it managed 5.7 seconds for the sprint and a top speed of 145 mph.

The interior was more refined than its predecessors with electric windows, plush carpets and electrically operated door mirror, there was also a new thermostatically controlled heating system, headlight washers and rear window wiper.

Well,

you might have to register on the Impact bumper forum (its free) to get to the "early carrera's" info

http://www.impactbumpers.com

Fellow Carrera 3.o targa driver Jack summarised all the road test reports I send him on his website
http://www.wilsonontheweb.co.uk/press.php

If you fancy reading the 2500 word translation of the original german road test I made, have a look here:
http://www.johndglynn.co.uk/impactbumpe ... topic=3972

I only did it because it was the test that Paul Frere quoted and is the most complete I came accross worldwide.

Also, have a look here

http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... 7fcd86bbab

I presume you are Keith's friend (very porky) or are we talking about #249 here?

Best regards and good luck with the sale

Hello again

Yes you are right; it was me who blooming crashed my car into two parked vehicles. I'm still negociating with the insurance company but hey ho- She'll be back.

Good luck with the sale- now that I have established which car you have (keith summarised a few facts already) I indeed think you are coming in cheap.

Irish market will be very very interested in it.

By all means if I can be of further assistance, you are welcome to contact me via pm to talk more.

Thanks for all the feedback guys... looking at the evidence I think you make be right pricewise... but I'll feel bad if I increase the price now I've started advertising it... a re-think and possible increase is definately going to be considered... if anyone out there's interested act now before it changes!!

... and to Bert... it's gotta hurt hitting two parked cars!!

Good luck fighting the insurance company!!

Thanks again to all!

Erm Chris,

It did hurt (my ego  ) but yeah, it can happen and a 911 can snap.

You are aware of this threat on your car over on impact bumpers.com I presume? Might be worthwhile a response....

Chris,

as indicated on the Ib forum, your car is also a Sport: bilsteins, fuchs and that rare c3 spoiler that I hope you collected as well. The son of the vendor couldn't find the rubber lip but apparently it was all there.

ATB and succes with the sale.
