bloody 914!

Post by jonnoshore »

Got the gearbox shifting ok... Fitted a new reverse switch!
Take for dirve.... After finally being able to select a gear!

2-3 miles... Then I hear a clocking noise...

No drive, No start! Look underneath and the new reverse switch has been decapitated... shite...

The drive shaft sheared a bolt and the other two came undone!

Span round >>> switch and starter motor taken out!!!

shite! !

So now I need another starter motor and a reverse switch!
Lets hope the SS exhaust is still in one piece!

A bit miffed off John tbh

thats 914's for you!

Nige should be able to sort you out with a starter.

It will be worth it in the end - honest

Hello Ian,

Who is Nige? Is he close to here (Essex).

I may have found a starter... The Heat exchanger looks ok from underneath will have a better look in a minute.

Need reverse switch and starter motor...

John

Wow bad luck Jon, I hope the damage is not too bad, I can imagine with the shaft flailing about it can do some serious damage, even at slow speeds
I have seen a picture where the actual starter came off with the piece of gearbox it attaches to.
I know some have lockwired their bolts for this reason.

I've been offered one for £25... is that a good price?

All I need is the end casting as mine seems like a pretty new one, still black good internals. So could have a none functioning one to put my internals in...

I had the drive shaft flange off yesterday to get the broken stud out. 2/3 Questions.

the torque for the centre of the driveshaft flange?
the torque for the 4 driveshaft bolts?

even if these 4 are torqued up correctly do these bolts come out?

Jon Have you got the serrated shake-proof washers? How will you prevent them loosening again?
