Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

Thanks for all the helpful advice. My nipples are a bit of an eyesore. I should really sort them out as someone suggested  I don't really fancy spending £65 on a brake bleeder, that will be used once. It looks like identical-looking versions can be found for 25 though without the Sealey sticker...

Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

Sorry, can anyone answer a few more naïve questions before I try to re-install this caliper please.... :P I filed the sides of the brake pads - I think it was mainly just paint build-up on the sides of the pads that made them interfere with the inside edges of the caliper. A quick rub up and down a ...

Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

Thanks for the excellent advice !

I will run the edges of the new pads down the surface of a file a wee bit until they slide in nicely...

Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

After cleaning and reassembling the two halves and seals, the caliper is back together with a new pair or M7 bolts courtesy of Fastpack in York... 8) I planned to fit the caliper on the car today, but test-fitted the pads first and found that they were slightly too wide for the caliper, as per the p...

Re: New body panels currently from Porsche

The later L-shaped gusset definitely fit the earlier cars, I had them fitted to my 73 Targa, at the expense of originality, to get the additional rigidity. There is less or perhaps no need for this extra rigidity on coupes. One point worth noting is that the genuine later L-shape Porsche versions th...

Re: Front undertray rhd

My guess is that LHD and RHD covers are the same - its the same steering rack, in the same position. I think the only difference between LHD and RHD front suspension/steering might be just the UJ's on the steering rod.

Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

Thanks for the nice tip, looks like a good deal for long M7 8.8 hex bolts, but hex heads won't fit unfortunately, and I wouldn't be able to sleep at night unless I used the original 12.9 grade. In any case, I have managed to track down as supplier of the cap/socket head versions needed. For two M7x7...

Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

I wish that were possible, but the socket heads are countersunk into the caliper at one side so the hex heads won't fit. Potentially, some grinding of the head might do the trick, but I might have found some socket heads on Ebay, albeit £10 each!

Thanks for your suggestion! :cyclops:

Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

Bump on spare 2 x M7x70 nuts bolts for M-calipers, anyone, perhaps from a junk caliper? NLA at Tola-tools (…sorry Mr, these bolts will not be available any more. Production price has gone over 1200 €/100 pcs, so we have to cancel sale for them…), and Thomas Smith are only having 60's made.. Thanks f...

Re: New body panels currently from Porsche

Some thoughts on spot bits and an alternative from me... The tips on spot weld bits do differ slightly, and this can affect the outcome - some bits make a deeper pilot hole (too deep), which leaves a hole or crater in the centre of the second panel. I managed to find some which produced almost no pi...

Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

Possibly used M7's because 8 were a bit chunky and 6 were a bit weedy? Another good question might be, why the heck would they use a Ribe head - perhaps these were a predecessor of the Torx/star and spline heads? Luckily, the Torx bit fits the Ribe well enough... If you have ever had the misfortune ...

How would you even get the '73 floors and underside to join with the 996 cills, front pan etc? Would love to see underneath!
A lot of work with the stretcher, surely

Re: Spare junk M-caliper long bolts/nuts anybody?

Didn't notice the markings, never heard of Ribe type. In my caliper, I had a pair of those Ribe bolts and a pair of hex sockets. The heads on the hex pair were rounded, so obviously had been messed with in the past. In any case, a pair of hex heads will do the trick if I cannot obtain a pair of orig...
