Re: Hello!

Wow, that is service! Thanks very much Jos (and Californian friend). This really does give me some confidence that was previously lacking when all you have to go on is a few pictures on the internet!

Re: Hello!

Hi Jos...

Yes, if you can, that would be great! The guy I have been negotiating with is called Tom Drummond.

Re: Hello!

Wow, 10k for an engine rebuild... Maybe I should go into business? I've built quite a few desmo valve Ducati engines in my time (the later belt driven cam ones, not the earlier bevel drive ones), as well as cutting my teeth on Beetle engines about 20 years ago. The last Beetle engine I had anything ...

Re: Hello!

Right, I'm not about to lay out a considerable quantity of cash to someone who isn't ticking all my boxes. Time for him to come up with what I want, or he can sell it to someone else.

Harumph!

Re: Hello!

Interesting... Been doing a little due dilligence on the seller, and found one bad review. OK, not really the end of the world, but I've asked him for testamonials from Europeans who have bought cars from him, and so far nothing, but I have just had an email saying that he has another offer for the ...

Re: Hello!

OK, progress report...

I've managed to get a quote from Kingstown, and things are looking good. Any ideas about money transfers to the USA?

Re: Hello!

You are right Neil, that one is a beauty. I'm looking to purchase the one at the top of the thread for a bit less than the advertised price. I'm going to call HMRC tomorrow, to see if I can get a definitive answer about import duty etc. Thanks everyone for all the advice, I'm sure its all going to b...

Re: Hello!

Really? I'm led to believe by the seller that the import duty will only be 5%... Has anyone here been charged the full 20%? Further discussions with the seller have revealed the engine to need a refresh, so the price has reduced somewhat. I'm OK with this though, because engine work is probably my s...

Re: Hello!

The seller indicated that he could get it up and running for $3500 USD, but it would all be donkey work I can do myself. I guess I'm serious... Gulp! Thanks for the offer, but I'm figuring that it might not hang around long at that price? Or maybe thats just the buyer's excitement creeping in (and w...

Hello!

Hello! This seems like a friendly place to while away the time spent not working on cars! I'm in the process of contemplating the purchase of a 356C from California. I've read a few threads on here about doing just that, but does anyone have any hints and tips? Were there any unforseen costs? I know...
