Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail
I'd be looking at the Cylinder head temp sender, if the ECU is getting false readings it could be thinking its in permanent warm up mode and be running rich. Certainly change all service items if unknown history. The idle control valve just stabilisers the idle when off throttle and isn't adjustabl...

Re: What do you make of backdated Porsches?
I'm with Andy, the engine is where the magic happens and the main reason I bought an early 911. I don't have any issues with back dates at all though, some great cars out there and can be had for a price point that may not get you a good early car. There are also very expensive backdates that have ...

What do you make of backdated Porsches?
I just imported from Jersey a stunning, black Carrera 3.2 G50 that was backdated by Paul Stevens of AutoArt a good while back in the style of a "lightweight R lookalike", and which featured in 911 & Porsche World some time ago. There is no doubting that it is a stunning car and thrilli...

Re: Are there any classic 911 breakers in the midlands?
Hi Rob Engine lids and accompanying grilles changed over the pre-74 years and Model Year 911’s often are misrepresented by the fact that they did not follow calendar years for production but from August to July. I have a few engine lids and if you are keen to get the ‘correct’ one for your 911 it’s...

Re: 2.7 pots and pistons NOS
Mahle 90mm pots and pistons CIS. Nikasil barrels all new ,boxed and unused. £1600. Change of plans. Can mail pictures if required. Nick Putting these in a 2.2 is a bad idea, right? Case can't take it, and drilling new stud holes in the pots leaves them weakened. Doing a compression test in the comi...

In need of a 1970 engine lid (currently has a later whale tail on). Are there any classic 911 breakers in the midlands?

Thanks for the tip. I have the Haynes manual already - is it far superior to that?Chris_911 wrote:Best advice is to get a copy of the Bentley manual for the 3.2.
It will rapidly pay for itself.

Re: Is 915 gearbox first gear in a crazy position?
And you should indeed have to push against resistance to select 1st, it’s straight down from reverse. The linkage can be adjusted under the plate between the rear seats so it doesn’t travel as far backwards before engaging. There are plenty of threads on Pelican Parts and vids on You Tube. Thanks, ...

oh yeah, thanks. kinda obviousKS wrote:????? Your car doesn't have a 915 gearbox - assuming it's a five-speed, it has a 911/01 which is a revised version of the 901, still with the dog-leg first gear.

Re: 3.2 Carrera UK emissions fail
It could just be burning off some oil. What’s the mileage / has it been rebuilt / when was the oil last changed or topped up and did the person who did it know how to do it on a 911? If it’s just been sat or is a smidge overfilled a proper hour’s hard drive might solve it. Thanks for the suggestion...

Black box under bonnet - part 119.201.801 - what is it?
There's a black metal box under the bonnet of my 1970 911T with some hozes coming out, near the nearside batttery. VW Part number 119201801. I assume 119 means Porsche 911 and I know 2 indicates fuel, exhaust and heating. What is this item? I didn't look where the hozes go because I assume I could l...

Is 915 gearbox first gear in a crazy position?
The gearbox for my USA LHD 1970 911T is indicated in the paperwork as: 911/01 5 7:31 S A GA O V ZA. Upon driving the car for the first time today (3m up my drive) I found first gear in the left hand of the selector, where you have to push left against the reverse spring in order to find it. This did...
