Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Now I had an engine that starts and runs for half a minute I wanted more. I needed a makeshift cooling setup. I had a spare Nissan March radiator and fan kicking about so that was called into action. I whipped up this beautiful bit of carpentry artwork.. https://i.postimg.cc/VkzkHrsv/20240124_192015...

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Great! Thanks for the info. I'll look up turbo Thomas.

I'm quite looking forward to this part of the build when it comes. I'm sick of the steel silencer I made for the imp that currently keeps getting rust holes in the bottom plus it's too low for steep driveway exits in town.

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Thanks fellas. Yes- a bit quieter than I was expecting and much smoother considering its on a default tune that is made to suit the mean average of engines out there. I dont think I'm going to put too much effort into making the silencer really effective as I want to hear this thing! I need to start...

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Bench testing continued. The sump was now holding oil. Phew. I fitted the old smiths mechanical oil pressure gauge that was originally fitted in the imp race car. I mounted the gauge to the temporary coil stand. With the engine cranking over it was seeing about 20 psi. The oil level would drop in t...

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Part 2... catching up now. I finished what I needed to on the loom to enable testing of the injectors. I had made a simple little alloy jig that I could bolt the two rails onto and it sat high enough that 6 matching jam jars could sit below. We set this lot up on the big mobile steel bench and rolle...

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Wow- its been over two months since an update but this project has moved way down the list of what's important to me right now. However I am still working on it where I can because its a nice break from thinking about other things and still really fun to work on plus both Hanna and I really do want ...

Re: 1949 Humber town bike restoration

I've got a very similar bike, though a Raleigh. It has the 4 speed hub - with a dynamo built in :) , rod brakes and with stainless rims which is a lovely thing considering how well rod brake rims love to rust. I picked it up cheap from Warlands cycles in Oxford while I was working at Bike Zone (all ...

No probs. Writing up a build thread actually helps keep my mojo going as I can look back and see how far I've come.

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Cheers @911hillclimber - and yeah, as Steven said, this imp shell is just for mockups and I'll be fitting the setup into my road going imp.

Hiya Steven. I should have guessed you might be on this forum.

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Continuing on with cleaning bits and fitting them. I gave the inlet runners a tidy up with a wire wheel. I was tempted to paint them but decided I like the raw alloy look and they should be easy enough to keep free of any oxidation. https://i.postimg.cc/JzcWwdd6/20231014-183452-Custom.jpg Bolted tog...

Re: 1965 Hillman Imp soon with flat six from a Honda

Cheers fellas. So where I left off last time was the oil filler pipe and sight window ideas. I don't really need a separate flange now I have decided to run the pipe shorter in height. So I dug out another old bit of alloy, gave a it a clean in the lather and welded up a new pipe.. https://i.postimg...
