Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion
Sorry typo! Tyres are 165/80s. It’d be a tractor otherwise! My car came from Gary In April 2017 after a previous client of his gave up on it. That said, at the time not much had been done beyond getting it to rolling shell state. Naively I thought I’d have it on the road by summer 2018. At Christmas...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion
I originally had my car on 17” rims with low profile tyres and dropped spindles and a lowered narrow front beam. That put me well below the 500mm min headlight height rule so I did something radically conservative by replacing the spindles with standard ones and fitting steel 15” wheels with 265/80 ...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion
Also meant to mention about the side repeaters. I was bothered about these too but found some small discrete LED units each about the size of a 20p coin. They are mounted on the side of the front wings just a couple of inches in front of the doors. They are hardly noticeable when not in use and desp...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion
Adam, sorry your initial build thread has deteriorated into a discussion about tell tales , but I think this is good information to share and it’s what forums are all about! I think you are spot on with your switches. Regarding the tell tales you list, they’re not all required but they will add cons...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion
Thanks. Great to get some clear feedback on this. Think I’ve got a clear plan: There are no restrictions in the IVA manual on the colour of the tell tales so the middle clock will be used for left and right (and both will flash together for the Hazards). On the combi gauge I’ll have the oil light, a...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion
Adam - great to see another coupe coming together. I’ve been building my 356a rep for nearly 2 years. Progress is VERY slow - I’m a complete amateur and have so far been working on it alone, but I’m having the same thoughts and considerations as you re. IVA. I have a simple question I’d value opinio...

Re: Upper seat belt mounts
Hello Paul I’ve got a Speedster Clinic coupe which I’m building for IVA. Not quite the same as the Speedster but to overcome the seatbelt mount issue I’ve bought a pair of BMW E46 convertible seats off eBay. They weigh a tonne so I expect to have to beef up the floor pans but they have built in inte...

Re: Battery vs spare wheel
I am using a small race battery similar to the Odyssey. It is 230 CCA. My car is still in the build stage but it is a similar CCA requirement to the Beetle and I’ve been told this should be sufficient. It sits in an aluminium bracket in the right hand side of the engine compartment. Fixings bolt the...

Re: Burnt Pig - 356 Pre a Build Thread
I’m of the opinion that no one should even be building one of these without the intention of putting it through the IVA. The floorpan is modified so automatically that puts it in IVA territory. Building to IVA regulations definitely ups the blood, sweat and tears factor and is adding considerable de...

Re: where to get a speedster heated screen
Hello Paul
You could try Pilkington Classics. I recently ordered one for my coupe replica project. It’s heated and has the required E markings for IVA. Cost about £500 but a Speedster one is smaller so may be cheaper. I got my side glass from SGI glass.

Re: 356 Speedster Flat6 outlaw build
Richard, on the coupe screen point, if it’s any help I ordered mine from Pilkington Classics. It is e-43r marked and heated. Cost a shade over £500 delivered and there was a 10 week lead time. That said they had 2 delivered into their Crawley branch when mine arrived from the factory. That was late ...

Re: 356 Speedster Flat6 outlaw build
I have fitted my coupe replica with a genuine 356a Speedo and I’m using original size 15” wheels and tyres (Vredestein 165/80s). In theory the Speedo should therefore read as Porsche intended back in 1956... Given the standard factory set up, do you think the IVA inspector will still require me to p...

Well done. What an absolutely fantastic result and no doubt you are thinking it was worth all the blood, sweat and tears now! Enjoy your car.

17” Fuchs copies with tyres & Porsche pattern discs and drum
17” Fuchs copies with tyres & Porsche pattern discs and drums These came with a 356 replica project I bought last year which I am taking in a different direction. Bought new by previous owner, fitted but never driven, so unused condition. Set of 4 Fuchs copies by JWS. Foosh style 5 x 130 Porsche...

Re: Planning on building a Speedster replica?
No update on the UK gov website yet but if this is verified it looks like very good news... emissions testing at IVA will not change.
