Re: Rear wheel bearings
Not sure if swb are the same as lwb? but on lwb the bearings are pressed in so you need some sort of puller to get the old bearing out and the reverse to get the new bearing back in. I made a puller at work which popped the old one out relatively easily, getting the new one back in proved more tric...

Re: Rear wheel bearings
And you should replace the drive shaft bolts and schnor washers as they are really a one use only.

Re: Rear wheel bearings
The rear arms can stay in the car. No special tools other than a torque wrench to do up the hub nut. Make sure you install the spacer tube in between the bearings. If the outer bearing is loose in the housing you may need tome bearing lock. Oh and don’t forget to install the O ring on the bearing pl...

Re: Taking a long time to start
It’s not hard at all to fit. The hard bit is reaching behind the engine to snap the end on the ball joint. 1. Feed it up through the slot in the tin and make it stay there. 2. Go to engine and reach behind and wrestle the barsteward on to the ball joint. Swearing is optional here. 3, Connect it at t...

Re: Taking a long time to start
Magnicor ignition leads. Expensive but are better quality than the standard leads and last a lot longer. Oil Breather pipe buy a meter of 24/25mm diameter oil pipe from ebay, (check the size as I am not around the garage at the moment), What accelerator bushes? there are a fw in the linkage, three b...

Re: Help identifying front wishbones for MY66 912 (UK RHD)
They are not from a 69 car. 68 cars had some mix and match parts from SWB and LWB, but the arms pictured above are not those either.
My thoughts are that some one has modified them to work with a LWB cross member and steering rack.
Would I use them?
No!

What year is your car?
They look like 1969/70 recliners with the seat fold tab on them?
You cannot buy spare parts for them as far as I know

Re: 6 cylinder conversion… what do you really need
Oil tank Engine mounts Engine mount bar and cradle Tach you can use one of Bob Ashlocks converters Fuel pump for Carbs Loom is the same on a 912 you just have to find the spare wires tucked in the engine bay and behind the dash for whatever gauges you want to run. Make sure that the engine has a 901...

Re: MSD - CDI box rusting points which then break
It’s probably a less strong spark as the resistance is not the same but its a better coil than what has replaced the standard porsche coils on the market.
Its epoxy filled though so wont leak oil everywhere when it over heats.
The other option is to buy a secondhand Bosch black coil

Re: MSD - CDI box rusting points which then break
Rob My question on the Permatune ignition would be what support is offered in the UK for an item manufactured in the USA? Looking at Permatune’s web site the distributor looks like a 123 ignition item to me. The box is the standard Permatune affair, and the coil who knows. Classic retrofit are in th...

Re: MSD - CDI box rusting points which then break
Why change the MSD? 123 distributor has no mechanical points to rust. Lots of cars run a 123 distributor with CDI MSD Bosch or otherwise. The Permatune distributor looks very much like a 123 distributor. Have no real knowledge of Permatune so cannot comment. But I do have a 912 and a 911 both runnin...

Re: Under cover Resto
Plastigauge is to check the clearance on the bearings to the crank. Its got to be within tolerance for oil to do its work and for the engine not to knock or lock up. And an old Porsche mechanic once told me that the cam break in was a bit of an old wives tale with Porsche engines it has more to do w...
