Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day

https://images1.bonhams.com/image?src=Images/live/2019-12/04/24889986-117-2.jpg&width=960 Nice bike pictures Ashley. I've always had a weakness for Italian stuff, and, at the behest of a mate, found myself taking a trip to Bicester a few weeks back to look at the Morbidelli collection which was...

Re: Getting crank pulley bolt off?

Careful, be very careful. When you get the pulley free, see if there is a crack in the corner of the keyway.

Re: 3D scanning/printing?

Does any of the 3D printing persons above know if it is possible to 3D print a carburettor float? I'm deeply into my 356 engine right now, and my suspicion is that the whole business was caused by a carb float not quite floating, which diluted the oil with petrol, and scored the bores between oil ch...

Re: Getting crank pulley bolt off?

I had a very good go at getting mine off. Started off with a big spanner, then a big spanner with heat, then more heat, then I borrowed a flogging spanner attached to a large lever with a pivot, from a mate with a garage. Apparently they use that to get BMW engine sprockets off when changing cam bel...

Re: Just miserable

I have some share slump stubs if you need any. Sent from my Redmi 7 using Tapatalk Thanks for the kind offer Neil, but I'm good for those. The sump plate I bought from Ollie came with a set of new, longer studs. I plan to be back in the garage on Wednesday when I have got over these pesky nightshif...

Re: Just miserable

Hey, if it were easy, then everyone would be doing this for a hobby. Don't forget that it should be a fun thing to do! Take some time out, and try to not let it be the main thing that is bugging you. That's what I always try and do, and after a few weeks of barely even looking at my car, the need to...

Re: Gearknob installation

I'm not sure about 911s, but I have just put a new wooden 917 style gearknob onto my 356. There is a 16mm metric fine thread on the gearshift lever, which the thread on the gearknob goes onto. You need to procure a locknut to firmly fix the gearknob to maintain the gear numbers on the shift knob in ...

Re: I’m thinking of buying the BaT 356. Good move?

I'm probably not the only one to find the MO of the original poster a bit strange? Having bought and sold two 356s without seeing either, then setting yourself up to purchase a third (unseen of course!), but then asking on a forum if this sounds like a decent buy...

Re: 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport restoration

I had an XS250 for a while as a cheap daily - probably the slowest Jap 250 ever built! Yup! I think that the main issue was that the XS250 had identical frame, cycle parts etc to the XS400. To achieve much more than 70mph took a lot of thrashing, hence the engine rebuilds! I don't admit that I owne...

Re: Talbot Mirrors on a 356

I've owned cars with both Talbot style mirrors and Durant types and from a utility point of view, there is very little to choose between them. Just go with what you like the look of, but if you want something more useful then the Durant, they are probably not the answer. I bought your Durant mirror ...

Re: 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport restoration

[quotePlease to read someone is watching this! quote] Of course! A diet of nothing but Porsche would be ultimately dull! My next bike after the CB100N was a 1977 XS250 which coincided with a period of personal poverty. I really wanted another Honda, but there were none about for the sort of money I ...

Re: 1972 Honda CB175 Super Sport restoration

That's all looking really nice! My first bike was a Honda CB100N which I learned and passed my test on. Bought for £325 and then sold about 4 years later to a mate for £300. My only gripe with small Japanese bikes is that the frame welding is serviceable, but never very nice looking, and they have a...

Re: 356 Registry Site

I noticed that the Google search functions seemed to have vanished a few weeks ago, but it was still possible to read forum threads from the main page. Now that has gone too. I found that the Registry forums were a very usefull source of information when I was restoring my car, and I was considering...

Hi there Neil, Does the mirror include the base rubber? Is the mirror itself in good nick, are there any chips in the glass etc?
