knapmann - thank you - i will definitely check that out. i think the control valve was mentioned earlier as a potential problem. very interested to see how you fixed without replacing!

JB, not resolved yet as have been away - looking to do the 30 sec fuel pump test next week.
Sam, it's a good point re. fuel filter - will check that too.

How long has this been happening in relation to the engine re-build.? Are you getting enough fuel delivery to the MFI pump.? There's a 30 second test you can do on the fuel feed from the console to the pump which is in the workshop manual. I would work back from the MFI pump as it sounds like fuel ...

Thanks Bruce. I can hear the cold start dropping neat fuel into the intakes so I don’t think that’s the issue.
