First gen was either the 4 pot 20 valve turbo in either 180 or 225bhp guise, or the 3.2 litre V6 that pretty much always came with flappy paddles. The five pot wasn't until the second or third gen. Grab your voltmeter, switch it to AC, stick it across the terminals, get a friend to rotate a wheel. Or if you're feeling particularly brave (or stupid, depending on your point of view) stick it up on axle stands and start it up and stick it in third. If the sensor's working you'll see an output. As for runs and drives? Yep. I sold my 914, painfully close to it being in a running and driving state, and felt not a shred of regret. If I'd've been able to drive it all those years ago I would probably have finished it, and much sooner...

Took a drive down to the local Porsche parts shop. Bought a new ignition switch, reverse light switch, and a DME relay. Hopefully I'll actually get to fit them, along with a new starter motor, later on this week. Would love to get a stress-free drive out before the weather turns...

I think it's real. The Traveller rear bodied one works better, though. IMHO...
