Re: Gauge fun
Your MPH dial is close to original to my 356A but there is a ' 0 ' missing and M.P.H should have full stops. But I have never seen one of those for sale anywhere so you did well to find that and of course it will work better for you. The individual items you require I cannot see on Roger Bray or Sto...

Re: Hankering after a 356 Help Needed
Mark, I would contact Drew about the RHD A he has been working on. The C&C green car if you were to attempt that level of work could take up a lot of your life I reckon. I dislike seeing it all green everywhere. Its LHD and just how would you know what is with it if you bought it. I saw the car ...

Re: Hankering after a 356 Help Needed
Mark, be assured Drew would be very good to speak to. There are so many traps you can fall into. I saw his work on the 59A WUF many years ago after he finished the car and sold it. It was still looking very good. Of course more choice if you go B or C but you might see the whole truth if you look at...

Re: Hankering after a 356 Help Needed
Mark, I have been driving my 356A super now for 53 years, I bought it because it was a car I wanted from the mid 50's when I first saw one. The shape of the car in the 50's was so different to the normal cars I saw driving around Isleworth. Of course the price off them at around £2,000 was half of w...

Re: 356A Coupe restro
Gregg you know in the mid sixties I was looking at 356 cars to buy in the hundred to one hundred pounds region to buy. All I seemed to see were rusty ones so in the end ended up seeing one in 1968 for £440 that seemed okay and it was really, but I had rust soon found that out, but I was able to cont...

Re: Restoration Design Speedster
Started my working life as an apprentice tool maker ended my working life selling CNC machine tools in 2007. The photo Keith put on shows a very well executed piece of work for the bodywork. Not seen anything of the box sectioned chassis. The amount of work to produce the required tolerances of a 35...

Norm Miller was really good 356 guy
Saw on the Registry site that Norm sadly passed a few days ago. Back when I could easily post on the Registry site Norm was very helpful when I had some problems I was just not sure about. Maybe some of you 356 guys knew of him as well.
Real shame a real nice guy!

Re: Bouncy front end !
If you go to the front of the car and push down on the front how hard is it to get deflection? Does it easily bounce and down or do you have to really work quiet hard to get any up and down movement? My car its hard to get any movement the shocks were set to medium. Only the smallest of movement if ...

Guess you guys are aware of this from Esso
I have been using Esso petrol for years now and have been pleased with the product. I am aware their most expensive product on their forecourts Esso Synergy Supreme 99 has a cleaning agent twice that of their normal unleaded. But are you all aware Esso state their Supreme 99 has zero Ethanol apart f...

Re: Under cover Resto
Nicely cleaned up but just a question. The hardened valve seats in the photo above of the head look in very poor condition. I remember the pics of the valves that were so burnt and worn. I presume they seats will be removed and new ones installed but is the condition of the head still okay to do tha...

Re: Bouncy front end !
Jeremy, About 20 years ago I had my car's front wheels off the ground for couple of weeks doing a job underneath the car. Finished the job and taking it for drive the front was really bouncy I could not work it out, I could push the car up and down and the shocks seemed to work and return but the bo...

A new motor and new solinoid Neil. It could well have been the old solinoid or a problem within the old motor you changed.
Pleased it started.

Re: Sub par brakes
That's a sensible reply Robert. My old A is still on Drums and they are in good condition. I have respect for the way they work and I do have to make sort of comparisons to my BMW discs with servo. The old 356 actually stops very well, in fact I feel it needs almost driver feel when the brakes are a...

Re: Where is Roy's thread on removing the starter?
Yes Simon pleased you said that, as I mentioned too, there was minimal wear on my old bushing after I removed and checked it. Hope Neil's one is the same. ( I had the extractor but don't remember a 22 mm nut ? to extract. The force to remove it was very light. Stoddards extractor tool T55.110.228A I...

Re: Where is Roy's thread on removing the starter?
Neil, I am a bit confused You extracted the old bush from the bell housing and inserted the new one. Then you say you have to use a 22mm spanner to turn the bush?? Is the problem you have connected to inserting the top bolt ( holding the motor to the bell housing )? It is difficult to enter the top ...
