Re: Battery vs spare wheel

Have you tried the battery yet - i am curious as to the outcome on this. Also, does anyone have experience with the different starter motors that are available. There is a big difference in price between them and i don't know if this is an area where i should pay £260+ for a Genuine VW one or go for...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

I have now dropped all of my engine parts off with my chosen engine builder (and ordered some new parts where needed) and i am now waiting for the finished article - should be ready by the end of June. I decided to treat myself to a gorgeous 356-style oil filter that i got from Sierra Maidra in the ...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Nice badge. Really think its the hardest part of the build deciding on colours and a theme, trying to be innovative and different adds a whole new dimension. I have been building for over five years and still cant finally decide on colour! Likely to be Audi Nardo grey, Porsche graphite blue but red...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Just bought a little treat for the car today... https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7917/33536964908_bb8e2222d1.jpg I am spending far too muck time thinking about colours, styles and finishing touches for something that still has some way to go before i need to implement any of it, however i just feel th...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

OK, just baby steps this week. I ordered the engine tin wear and a 2QT deep sump for my 1776. I have contacted a local bodyshop with a view to getting the tin wear painted 'properly' and i have messaged Ian Clark at Wolfsburg to see if he is interested in building the engine for me. I had initially ...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

We have spoken about the IVA quite a bit on here, does anyone have a target month for it? Also is there any concern about changes to the standard in the short to medium term??? Mines been 5 years so far since i started the chassis build, 2 years since i picked body up from gary. Its 100% diy build ...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Sorry typo! Tyres are 165/80s. It’d be a tractor otherwise! My car came from Gary In April 2017 after a previous client of his gave up on it. That said, at the time not much had been done beyond getting it to rolling shell state. Naively I thought I’d have it on the road by summer 2018. At Christma...

Re: Burnt Pig - 356 Pre a Build Thread

lol... CBS (and others) should just make an IVA kit that includes a load of shite that you NEED, but do not want, at a bargain price. They could even loan it out for a few months at a time to save on waste!!!

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

First of all, please don't worry about the content of the blog - I am more than happy to have the blog discuss tell-tales, or anything else related to the design/ build/ testing of the car as I am sure it is helpful to us now and to others in months (years) to come. Thank you for confirming the mini...

Re: Burnt Pig - 356 Pre a Build Thread

Hi Rob, what are your plans for wing mirrors? I had quite a job deciding on style and again with IVA in mind. I spent many days and weeks looking for some that had the indicator in them already to save adding a wing-mounted light. I just couldn't find anything that would work. Don't forget that what...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Whilst we are on tell tales (hope you don’t mind Adam hijacking your thread). I am not sure i understand the manual when it talks about using icons on or next to tell tales. It specifically says with regard to main beam tell tale that it can be either blue and no mention of icon, or any colour with...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Adam - great to see another coupe coming together. I’ve been building my 356a rep for nearly 2 years. Progress is VERY slow - I’m a complete amateur and have so far been working on it alone, but I’m having the same thoughts and considerations as you re. IVA. I have a simple question I’d value opini...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Richard / Rob thanks for your thoughts and comments on engines. I had originally planned to use my original crankcase but spotted a deal on new case that didn't need machining and decided to buy it. I think maybe I will now get my original engine rebuilt (with a little update / upgrade) and use that...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

Thank you all for your comments. Richard - I am doing the same thing with the length of the cables behind the dash. They are all a bit oversized so they work for both the IVA and POST-IVA setup. Like Rob, some of the dials and switchgear will be relocated after IVA and some will not be installed at ...

Re: Three Five Six - Ideas in Motion

In terms of IVA these are my notes for the most minimal dash controls / tell-tales... Controls - Indicator selector (left / right) - On stalk Lights (main beam) on/off - On stalk Lights (side) off/ on Light (hazard) off/ on Lights (fog - rear) off/ on Lights (fog - front) Not Required Windscreen Wip...
