Hi Martin, firstly I hope your compression results don't require this, but if they do then I have some experience with this when helping out Mark.... before you have it in the air disconnect the shift rod coupling to shaft on gearbox in the centre tunnel once you have the car up in the air disconnec...

aah yes i forgot about that seatbelt warning thingymyself...often disconnected as it can cause starting troubes if i recall correctly

It'll work Mark as long as its a cable drive 69-73 one, but there may be an issue with calibration....not that it would be that significant, infact I wouldnt be surprised if any of our early cars are that accurate.

I'm fairly sure it'll be ball park though :wink:

The carbs don’t hold a great deal of fuel, so if it’s been left a couple of days, the amount of fuel in the float can drain out/evaporate and the smell is gone or not as bad. It only needs to be the smallest of leaks to smell strong. As soon as you start it up again the fuel pump fills the floats up...

Does the car require some persuasion to start from cold or from sitting for a while? if so then I'd agree with the above and say to take a good look at the carbs, nip up all the brass fixings ... or even better change all the fibre washers before you do as they can become dry, crack and cause leaks ...
