Re: Olympic Blue / Silver metallic 1972 US Import 1.7L

Can't speak for what it should be however mine had bitumen on top of the floor inside which itself had been painted body colour. On the outside there is a rough underseal on the underside however the factory offered this as an option rather than as standard, so far as I am aware. Pretty sure the und...

Re: Olympic Blue / Silver metallic 1972 US Import 1.7L

That interior is coming up well. Worth checking that the rear window is properly fixed and not leaking. My centre tunnel looked like that which progressed to hidden holes under the bitumen sound proofing resultant from the window seal having gone. Relatively easy job to fix the window though if it i...

Welcome to the fold! Love the colour and steel wheels. Good luck with the restoration. You've come to the right place. Most of us have been through the same process.

Re: Fitting new bonnet seal

I glued mine in using 'spot welds' of glue along the channel. It was a special glue my bodyshop gave me for sticking rubber to metal though can't recall its name. Was in a tiny (super-glue) type bottle.

Re: NEC Classic car show

I think the easiest way of making a decision is to estimate the restoration costs (and double it) and then think whether you feel the starting price merits further consideration (asking prices all round seem to be climbing). All I would suggest is that you validate what other 914s are on the market ...

Should also say that Kevin posted some useful wiring guidance on my 'Green 914' thread that covers fitting the 924 stalk/911 water pump.

Re: Steering Column Cowl

Do you mean the cowl/shroud round the column or the dash top / binnacle? If the former I think I am correct in saying that there are allen bolts underneath. Would need to check when I get back later in the week. If the latter, you need to take the instrument panel out and you'll find 8 or 9 plastic ...

Re: Rear lenses required

Hi Dave Ive got the AA versions as well though I havent fitted them yet. Just wondered if youve mentioned it to AA at all? thanks Andrew Been on the car for some time so couldn't see the point. No means of arguing poor product design vs poor fitting. They are on ok with two pins but need replacing ...

Re: Rear lenses required

I haven't purchased the Hellas yet. The repro ones came from Auto Atlanta. Despite careful fitment, both sides resulted in a mounting pin failing / cracking. When I placed the original Hella (US spec) lens up, it fits fine. Roger Bray stocks the Hella items though I haven't shelled out the £190 each...
