Re: Distributorless Ignition

I've just had an email reply from Albertronics, the manufacturer of the 123 device. Apparently the drive gear for the distributor changed after 1977 so it wouldn't work for my car. Would be an option for anyone looking for earlier cars though.

Re: Distributorless Ignition

Thanks Gary. That map will be a great starting point if I go the EDIS route.

Re: Distributorless Ignition

Johnny, like I said, I like your product and admire what you've achieved. You didn't have any stock all summer and now you have the price listed on the website it's well into four-figures for the functionality I want. I appreciate the CDi unit I have will be old, but so is my distributor and your pr...

Re: Distributorless Ignition

Here is another possibility http://www.123ignition.nl/id/50.html There is a 6 cylinder version. I think you can do 3d matching with it if you have a pipe form the carbs. I have the 4 cylinder none programable version on my 912 They look great, offering all the functionality I want and at a reasonab...

Re: Distributorless Ignition

The CDI+ does look pretty and easy to install. It is a few hundred quid dearer than when last I enquired and you didn't have any stock for sale at that time. Out of interest, how exactly does it control the timing? It obviously picks up a signal from the hall sensor in the distributor for the engine...

Re: Distributorless Ignition

That looks like sound advice, Tim. I knew there must be a way of achieving it for reasonable money. It's amazing just how much mark up even aftermarket suppliers stick on just because it's Porsche.

Re: Distributorless Ignition

I struggle to understand how an XDi kit for our engines is $1300, plus shipping and tax when it lands (so £1300 effectively), and yet you can go distributorless on a Beetle or Mini or a couple of hundred quid. There has to be a better solution out there. It's not rocket science.

Distributorless Ignition

What's the best way to go distributorless? Preferably with some mapping function to tweak the curve to suit? I've read about MSD, but with mixed reviews.

Cheers.

Re: Indoor Car Cover

Nobody got an old one from a sold on car? Or one sat taking up room after upgrading?

If not can someone point me in the direction of a good quality new one?

Cheers.

Indoor Car Cover

I'm after an indoor car cover for a flat lid 911 to keep the dust off over winter. Before I splash out on a new one does anybody have one laying around they want to shift on?

It's far from finished, but a few hundred miles has renewed my enthusiasm for getting it 100% over winter;

Re: Naughty, naughty VW software!

I think the fix will be "remapping" the ECU until it makes the car actually meet the emissions target. That may mean that the 140bhp diesel that you bought will now be 80bhp, but we all know that polar bears are far more important that being able to overtake or maintain a decent pace.

Re: Fan/Alternator Noisy

It's a possibility. The noise is present throughout the rev range though. Mine has the oil fed tensioners fitted so I'd think it unlikely, unless it's failed dramatically since the engine was put back together a couple of weeks ago. I'll drop the belt off and and give it a brief test run to check. I...

I put one of the aluminium ones that extend below the fuel tank.
If you have the original available that'd be great, or point me in the direction of an aluminium one? I'm not averse to weight saving.
