Re: Are you really Insured

B On my V5 it says 'Date of first registration' 14/07/1972 B.1 Date of first registration in the UK 01/03/2012 D.1 Make CHESIL SPEEDSTER On the special notes it says 1. Non-Transferable Registration Mark YOD 495K 2. Kit Built/Converted - Assemble...

Re: The return of Kev - TODAY!!!
Paul, Sorry yes, anti-clock wise on the offside and clockwise on the nearside. http://www.softstar.co.uk/speedster%20images/rear_end.jpg As you can see mine is slightly higher than yours.. I also found just lowering the front a small amount and the standard shocks were too long also then bottoming o...

Re: The return of Kev - TODAY!!!
Paul, There are plenty of links on how to raise or lower the spring plates in the Volkszone forums. It is not a difficult job and the speedster is heavy enough so you can use the jack to support the tension of the spring plate. By your pictures it looks like 1 notch down will do it, i.e i 1 notch an...

Re: The return of Kev - TODAY!!!
Paul,,Looking very nice indeed.. Your rear end looks quite low  judging by the amount camber you have a swing axle rear end just like me, surely you must be on the bump stops which tends to give a 'hard' ride. ? I have now done a couple of hundred miles in mine and found that raising the suspe...

Re: First Drive
Thanks for the kind comments, I was worried about the choice of leather, but it was very supply and went on very well, no wrinkles or creases, well pleased with the result. The seats are recovered MX5 Mk 2 and give a vry low seating position, well for a short ar*e like me anyway. I do have clock to ...

First Drive
Well having now passed IVA, I couldn't wait for me first proper drive, I had never driven a beetle so did not know what to expect, but having built the Robin Hood 2B and the Cobra I knew how different rides can be compared to expectations. Well I was pleasantly surprised, I knew the steering would b...

Stunned with DVLA performance
I know we all complain about registering with DVLA.. I sent off my documentation to Exeter DVLA Friday afternoon (10th). With the intention of getting it on the road for March, and expecting to present the car at DVLA for inspection. Today in the first post (14th), I have my Tax disk, and Number pla...

Polishing gelcoat
A couple of people have looked at my website and asked how I managed to polish up the gelcoat on my Chesil Speedster. Firstly, the Chesil Speedster is very good body mold with only a few imperfections and a generous thickness of gelcoat, plus they provide a 'tub' of the gelcoat and some activator. I...

Re: Keeping Hubs Caps on
mdmax72, For the last two SVA tests I did drive to the test center, but that was when the test center was only 17 mile down the road at Taunton. Now they have closed Taunton, I needed to get to Exeter, an hour and a half drive, and knowing my luck it would be pi**ing down with rain, so a mate offere...

Keeping Hubs Caps on
I seem to struggle getting the baby moon hub caps on without denting them, only to find the odd one falls off now and then.
Is there knack or method of ensuring they stay on ?, or some other way of fixing ?

Re: IVA thread
Hi, I can also confirm exempt from emissions test, which is a good thing as I had a couple of 'db killers' stuffed up the tailpipe so they would never have got the probe up there ! I also had to make sure ALL the heating system for the beetle was removed, i.e the tubes from the heat exchanger to the...

Re: Insurance Time
Having now to apply for registration with DVLA I needed to get Insurance cover.
The guy at Hagerty's was very helpful, knew all about Chesil Speedsters and quoted me £131 agreed value ,, best quote I got anywhere, Adrain Flux wanted £192..

Re: Hidden away sound system
Seems a popular area at the moment..
My wife bought me a 'Retro' style radio, as soon as I passed IVA , so I was also wondering where to put the speakers.
I also assume everyone goes for the 'hidden' radio Arial rather drilling a hole in wing for an old style Arial
