Re: Maddening Running Issue
The hunting is probably because the pressure isn’t enough to open the injectors, until the pump builds enough pressure then they open & pressure drops until they shut, then repeat. Agreed. The question is therefore whether this is because of a dodgy pressure control valve or dodgy electric fuel...

Not the obvious headliner perhaps, but this really caught my eye - easily the coolest 996 i’ve seen around - picks up lots of early 911 style cues in a way which is much more successful than y...

Here we are prior to a lively drive home, which was briefly interrupted by a surprise mechanical on th A3 (easily fixed luckily). All good “old car” fun. Sent from my iPh...

I should be around for this Wednesday’s Fairmile meet. What time is it best to arrive for?

‘73 Flywheel ring gear wanted
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221003/2ef1a9672eb6aee91712b6705fada480.jpg As per my thread in the pre’74 forum, i’m on the lookout for one if these for my ‘73 car - part number 91111623904. Looks like they are interchangeable from ‘70-‘86. Anyone got a good one available? Sent from my iPhone u...

Re: Mashed flywheel ring gear
I’ve now gone ahead and bought a Wosp starter - quality looks good on the face of it, and the pinion teeth leading edges look nicely bevelled. But, i now need to buy a ring gear - turns out that I don’t have a spare after all. Anyone got one they’re not using? Looks like these are on back order and ...

Re: Mashed flywheel ring gear
On my car the starter position has no inherent adjustment- its just located by the two mounting studs and the machined spiggot on the mating face of the starter fitting into the bell housing.

Re: Mashed flywheel ring gear
I’ve now split the engine and gearbox, and will get some pics later. Many of the flywheel teeth are damaged on their end face - the screeching sound was the starter pinion spinning against the tooth end faces rather than fully extending to engage and turn the flywheel - effectively machining the end...

Re: Mashed flywheel ring gear
On the Powerlite website i see that their starters have a couple of different bevels on the tooth edges. See pic here. Subtly different from mine. I’ve also seen comments on Andy Prill’s website, where he sells Powerlite starters, that flywheel damage has been a recognised issue with some other afte...

Mmm, not pretty. Was it straightforward to obtain another pinion?

Re: Mashed flywheel ring gear
Thanks folks - agreed: I think this is an issue with the profile on the nose of each tooth on the starter pinion. It seems to have a flat face which cant be helping to engage the ring gear in a mechanically sympathetic way…. I’m quite sure the original Porsche pinion would not have created such dama...
