alternator check/brushes length
Hi. As part of trying to figure out my car's lack of charging I have removed the alternator in order to check the brushes, Its a 73 marshall alternator with external regulator and removable brushes. The brushes look to me as if they are making contact with the slip rings but I just wanted to check i...

The Tony Weale book is the bible. It reproduces alot of the data from the original owners manuals (which you can certainly get repros of).

Re: How to surface finish fine tone woods for paint?
Have you had a look at steve robinson's place? loads of advice on there. https://manchesterguitartech.co.uk/shop/ I've painted loads of guitars with his nitrocelly paint. Much nicer than carpaint which i'd would imagine was too thick and heavy and wouldnt help teh sound quality. Use rustins grain fi...

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
Ah, Chateau de Savigny, it's a fab place owned be a wonderfully eccentric chap called Michel Pont. We visited on our honeymoon in 1992, a 2 week jaunt in my mum's 1928 Austin 7 Chummy. We were wowed by everything about the place, including the wine, bought a case of which we have 1 bottle left. I h...

Re: Re-finihing quality wood?
Finish on guitars of that age would have been nitro-cellulose. Have a look at "rothko and frost" and "manchester guitar tech" and you can buy it in aerosol form. You probably want a clear laquer or a lint tint. Do make absolutely sure if you go down that route that you wear the c...

Re: 1972 ST Clone
Has that other "specialist" giving up now? One of teh chaps on here used to work there as I guess you might already know. I remember that he took it apart for the brothers as they thought it would make it an easier sell. It had coil-overs on the rear and needed either 12 plugging or de-12 ...

This is Peter Ratcliffe's old car isnt it? I remember (vaguely and drunkenly) talking to Abbott snr and junior about it at classic le mans many years ago. I hope its not been too painful but I suspect it has been...

rear light box removal Q.
Hi. I'm having trouble getting my rear light boxes out. I've taken out the two screws in teh body of the box and the rubber draining tube. However, it wont budge. Is there something that I've missed, like some other screw or something. I cant see anything else, so maybe its just stuck? Any ideas? ch...
